Job Summary:

FLIR is searching for a Senior Network Engineer to develop and maintain functional and secure networks. You will mentor a team of engineers to troubleshoot and optimize our networks for our users.  In this role, you should have excellent problem-solving skills and thorough knowledge of network administration and architecture. This position will implement new technology to improve network performance, and upgrade its existing infrastructure.  The role will maintain network components, improve performance and troubleshoot issues. The Senior Network Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of FLIR’s WAN components, across the world.  Including but not limited to: set up and monitoring firewalls, assessing the functionality and performance of the network routers, ensuring all network component software is updated regularly, developing and implementing company email policies in accordance with the FLIR’s policies, and maintaining the company phone system.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WLAN, WAN).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or computer science preferred.
  • Configure and install software, servers, routers and other network devices.
  • Monitor network performance and integrity.
  • Resolve issues tiers of support have escalated by troubleshooting cloud and local infrastructure.
  • Automate tasks and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Mentor team members on technical issues.
  • Create, oversee and test security measures (e.g. access authentication and disaster recovery).
  • Communicate with users when needed.
  • Maintain complete technical documentation.
  • Suggest improvements to network performance, capacity and scalability.
  • Research, design and implement new network technologies.
  • Improve network performance, redundancy and resilience.   
  • Upgrade email, phone systems, and other critical network infrastructure pieces.
  • Resolve FLIR network issues, and other Tier 3 issues escalated to networking.
  • Partner with other groups in IT (GTS and S&S), security, and external groups to  solve complex IT issues.
  • Consult and lead a team of network engineers, IT staff, and consultants.
  • Document and improve current FLIR IT processes.

Job Qualifications:
  • US Person status is required: US Citizen or US Permanent Resident status
  • 7-10 years of relevant work experience.
  • Router, network appliance, firewall configuration and troubleshooting experience .
  • Network traffic engineering and management (WAN and LAN).
  • Network provisioning of circuits, and optimization of wireless infrastructure.
  • Solid background in network administration and architecture.
  • In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF).
  • Familiarity with access control models and network security.
  • Knowledge of coding languages for scripting.
  • Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. SolarWinds network tools).
  • Solid understanding of network operating systems.
  • Available to travel 5-10% in North America (Canada and United States) and Europe.
  • Broad knowledge of all technology considerations (performance, scalability, maintainability, deployment, operations, technology infrastructure).
  • Expert level understanding of converged network designs that include multi-layer Quality of Service (QoS) and WAN optimization.
  • In-depth Knowledge of Palo Alto Firewalls preferred.
  • Experience with Global Protect and Digital Guardian preferred.
  • Experience with Velocloud infrastructure management preferred.
