Golder Associates Inc. is currently seeking a Project Pipeline Engineer to work out of our Pittsburgh-area office, (Wexford, PA). We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with the desire to learn and the drive to excel and thrive in an engaged, collaborative environment.

Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Work closely with various engineering and environmental staff in the design of DOT pipelines systems across pipeline lifecycle including pipeline installation feasibility studies (FEED) and route selection, Pipeline trenchless design, pipeline construction field engineering services, and pipeline deactivation/demolition planning;
  • Provide engineering support to pipeline routing studies, detailed engineering design of hazardous liquids and gas pipeline systems including pig launchers, manifolds, relief systems, measurement systems, terminal piping systems, etc.
  • Participate in field/site walks; coordinate field investigation work for surveys, utility investigations, environmental delineations, geotechnical investigations, cathodic protection, etc. in support of the pipeline design effort
  • Coordinate engineering and survey services in support of right of way acquisition needs on pipeline projects
  • Review third party pipeline encroachments for impacts to the client's pipeline system
  • Develop scope of work options and budgets to mitigate the encroachment
  • Prepare project funding documents such as cost estimates, equipment bid summaries and authorization requests
  • Provide field project coordination, engineering services and troubleshooting with direct client interface under the supervision of senior engineer
  • Prepare and submit permit application packages associated with pipeline projects
  • Write and/or review technical reports
  • Prepare proposals in response to client request for proposal


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering, from an ABET accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 6 years in the oil and gas pipeline sector with both project engineering and design experience or operating company experience;
  • Registration as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) minimum but Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred;
  • Knowledge of hazardous liquids and gas codes and regulations including 49 CFR Part 192 and 195, ASME B31.4, B31.8 and B31.8S, ISA standards, etc.;
  • Familiar with Pipeline design calculations software such as Pipeline Toolbox, CAESAR;
  • Familiar with design software such as AutoCAD and/or CADWorks;
  • Strong MS Office-Excel skills;
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized with solid time management abilities;
  • Strong interpersonal skills combined with a positive, team-oriented attitude;
  • High level of personal integrity with a strong work ethic;
  • Willingness to travel as dictated by project demands;
  • Independent with strong oral and written communication skills;

  • Project management experience or certifications will be considered an asset;
  • Prepare pipeline stress calculations associated with proposed pipeline crossings and horizontal directional drills
  • Familiarity with Business Development and Marketing of consulting services within the pipeline industry is a plus;
  • Understanding of Pipeline Hazardous Materials and Safety Administration;
  • Contribute to projects with major focus in of technical excellence or project management for Small to Mid-sized projects;
  • Familiar with Microsoft Project or Primavera P6 scheduling;
  • Good problem solver with ability to identify alternative solutions;
