Our Financial Analysts make an impact on the bottom line by understanding our business end to end and are agents of change and process improvement. Your role will continuously develop as a business partner and analyst, working hand in hand with Operations both in the office and in the field to achieve success.

This is an opportunity for accounting professionals who are entrepreneurial minded, appreciate an autonomous and unstructured work environment, and want to take an interactive role in providing leadership and guidance in a progressive and growing industry.

What you will do:

  • Work with field controllers and managers to learn local operations throughout the Western US, focusing on the distinct operational nuances that affect financial performance.
  • Assist field and region leaders with special projects and reporting.
  • Review operating locations and make recommendations to achieve operational and financial efficiencies.
  • Understand, measure, and monitor the Company's price increase initiatives and report on consolidated revenue performance in terms of price and volume.
  • Prepare and participate in budget and forecasting meetings
  • Dissect financial statements into geographical and operational subsets for regulatory reporting.
  • Understand and apply regulatory accounting concepts and adjust GAAP financials to conform to alternative regulatory frameworks.
  • Prepare rate filings and participate in meetings with regulators and eventually develop policy positions.
  • Prepare and participate in budget and forecasting meetings.
  • Participate in key rate analysis projects that will drive company decisions, such as capital deployment.
  • Potential to temporarily or permanently fill open field controller positions.
  • More areas willbe incorporated into the role as Waste Connections continues to grow.
  • Travel throughout the region 2-5 days per month (on average)

Important Demonstrated Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field required
  • Experience in a public accounting firm or publically traded company strongly preferred
  • Good documentation techniques with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong communications skills. In this position you will need to communicate with all levels of Waste Connections employees, as well as regulators and government officials.Successful candidates are those who seek to thrive in a fast paced and ever evolving environment of operational excellence and accountability.
