Golder has a new opportunity for a Control/Instrumentation Designer/Engineer to join our Process and Infrastructure Design team on a full-time basis based in Mississauga. The team you will join is involved in designing mining infrastructure with a multi-discipline team including dewatering, ore handling, paste backfill, tailings disposal, shotcrete, fuel and lube delivery and truck shops ;pumping systems for mining, landfills and contaminated soil sites; Landfill gas extraction and flaring.

An overview of your role will include:

  • Develop design criteria and standardized specifications
  • Develop control network architecture
  • Specify instrumentation (selection, technical data sheets, bid analysis and recommendations)
  • Design and review engineering work packages, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, data sheets and control panel layouts / BOM
  • Assist in the development of P&IDs by ensuring proper instrument symbology and control loop definition
  • Sizing of control valves and flow devices
  • Development of instrument installation details
  • Development of engineering estimates and input into proposals
  • Prepare various design calculations used in the discipline
  • Assist with the Front-End development of projects
  • Specify control hardware ensuring functionality, material selection, and safety
  • Develop functional descriptions including sequential control logic definition, and interlock definition
  • Review and check calculations, design models and drawings and design documents prepared by others in the group and by material suppliers, as assigned
  • Work with designers in other disciplines in the overall assignment to coordinate designs
  • Prepare bulk material quantity takeoffs and material requisitions for materials applicable to the discipline
  • May develop work plans, budgets, and schedules for basic designer tasks based on input and direction from supervisor when assigned
  • Work independently and take initiative to research information to complete assignments within the budgeted time
  • Participates in and fosters a work environment that is based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction

You will have a background in:

  • Minimum 10 years experience in the chemical, water, wastewater, or mining industry
  • Strong knowledge of industrial control networks
  • Extensive knowledge of instrumentation selection for various processes
  • Strong knowledge of industrial processes in various industries
  • Strong knowledge of control applications including control loop definitions and interlocking systems
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or automated engineering is an asset
  • Registered as a professional engineer in the Province of Ontario is an asset
  • Works independently in scheduling and completing tasks
  • Makes decisions of moderate complexity with some input and review from senior staff
  • MS Office competent
  • Solid organization and time management abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills combined with a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Excellent Communication skills, both verbal and written
  • High level of personal integrity with a strong work ethic
  • Valid passport and w illingness to travel nationally and internationally as dictated by project demands
