Manager, Academic Programs & Recruitment

The College of Arts (COA) at the University of Guelph has five academic units and more than 100 faculty members. Undergraduate enrollment consists of approximately 1,500 majors and minors registered in COA programs across the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Arts and Sciences. As Manager of Academic Programs and Recruitment, you will contribute to the success of the College and its students.

Under the direction of the Associate Dean, Academic for the College of Arts (COA), you will support all academic programs within the College with program quality reviews, curriculum re-development, the development of new programs, and student recruitment. Working in partnership with the COA Associate Deans, the Director of Interdisciplinary Programs, program committees, department curriculum committees, undergraduate coordinators, and academic unit staff, you will also play a key role in spearheading new initiatives and pilot projects around student recruitment, outreach and curriculum.

You will be counted upon to provide leadership and support in curricular best practices, including the development of experiential learning and high-impact teaching practices, and in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. You will also serve as the main point of contact and coordination of undergraduate operations in the College, and ensure continuity and consistency of these operations in the absence of the Associate Dean, Academic.

Your primary responsibilities as Manager, Academic Programs and Recruitment, will include:

  • Providing strategic advice to the Associate Dean, Academic, the Director of Interdisciplinary Programs, and the academic unit Chairs and Directors regarding new and existing undergraduate and graduate programs, including program quality assessment and reporting, new program areas, learning outcomes and their measurement, and student recruitment and retention.
  • In collaboration with programs, academic units, curriculum chairs and committees, overseeing the development and implementation of new curriculum initiatives and new programs.
  • Managing and coordinating the procedures for curriculum proposals and quality review procedures, including the development of documentation for these processes and ensuring correctness and thoroughness of material provided by departments and programs.
  • Developing plans for international and domestic recruitment, liaison and admission into COA programs for every COA undergraduate and graduate program, including participating in recruitment activities and collaborating with the COA Communications team on recruitment communication initiatives.
  • Providing leadership and support for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in the COA, including the development and promotion of best practices around course delivery platforms, online learning, high-impact teaching practices and experiential learning.
  • Initiating and developing tracking and monitoring mechanisms for the measurement of learning outcomes.

REQUIREMENTS

To assume the role of Manager, Academic Programs and Recruitment, you must have:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field (Master’s degree in arts, humanities or education preferred) with a minimum of four (4) years of related experience in the arts and humanities in a post-secondary environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including management of websites and social media.
  • Well-developed analytical, creative problem-solving and planning skills.
  • Demonstrated project management and administrative skills, as well as the ability to negotiate and provide advice.
  • Effective leadership skills, with an understanding of how to supervise staff and provide functional guidance and advice to senior College management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, public speaking and networking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a variety of diverse professionals, including faculty and University staff.
  • Knowledge of Canadian undergraduate programs, especially in the arts and sciences, an understanding of teaching and learning principles, and knowledge of undergraduate policies and degree regulations, including quality assurance processes.

NOTE: This appointment is regularly performed on-campus but, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be initially fulfilled remotely (off-campus) until the University resumes its regular operations.
