Interior Health (IH) was established as one of five geographically based health authorities in 2001 by the Government of British Columbia. Interior Health provides health services to over 756,666 people across a large geographic area covering over 215,000 km, the geography of which includes larger cities and a multitude of rural and remote communities. Interior Health is also home to 54 First Nations and 15 Métis communities, representing 8.8% of Interior Health’s total population. Population health needs across the continuum of care drive the mix of services and enabling supports Interior Health provides, and this continuum includes staying healthy, getting better, living with illness, and coping with end of life.
