We are currently recruiting for Water Conservation/Urban Wildlife Bylaw Officers who are currently enrolled in or have completed a post-secondary education program related to resource management or environmental studies. You will be responsible for effectively and efficiently patrolling Coquitlam’s neighbourhoods and enforcing adherence to the City’s Water Shortage Response Plan Bylaw (main focus of the Temporary Full-Time positions), Solid Waste Management Bylaw and Wildlife & Vector Control Bylaw.  You will also prepare, organize and deliver information on water conservation and urban wildlife to the public and promote program initiatives at community events and seminars. Other duties may include assisting with other initiatives within the Environment Division.

You must enjoy working outdoors in all conditions, be willing to work evening and weekend shifts, and be comfortable interacting with the public.  Some duties are routine and require self-discipline and attention to detail. It is required that you possess the following: excellent public education and public relations skills; experience in environmental activities or issues; excellent written/verbal communication; experience in data recording/entry and mapping; demonstrated organizational ability and creativity; ability to work well independently and on a team; and proficiency in using MS Excel and Word.

Additional assets include:  Formal conflict resolution training, bylaw enforcement experience including evidence collection, and experience conducting public education and outreach campaigns.

A CUPE hourly rate of $25.82 -$30.33 (2020 rates) is offered, along with a comprehensive benefits package (regular full time) or percentage in lieu of benefits and an earned day off program is being offered.  Shortlisted candidates will be required to obtain a criminal record check.  All applicants will be required to upload a recent driver’s abstract (within the last 30 days) with their application.
