An amazing opportunity to take up a newly created role with one of Canada’s leading universities. Reporting to the Vice President, Students (VPS) and as a key member of the leadership team, the Managing Director, Student Affairs is responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of a wide range of units and programs that are responsible for building, transforming, and enhancing UBC student engagement and experience on the Vancouver campus. Leading from an intersectional framework, the Managing Director will ensure an accessible, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all students, building staff capacity to address and eliminate systemic barriers that may prevent full student participation. Aligning with the UBC Student Strategic Plan, the incumbent will establish over-arching priorities and commitments for the Student Affairs unit, as well as lead strategic initiatives designed to advance inclusive excellence, enhance student success, and ensure access to meaningful learning experiences, supporting all students to achieve their academic, personal, and career goals.
The Managing Director will lead and develop an integrated student programming model to meet the evolving needs and diversity of its student population and provide students with an unparalleled experience. The successful candidate will ensure that all students are welcomed and supported and remove any barriers to full inclusion. In addition to managing a team of dedicated staff, this role will provide leadership in developing collaborative, strategic, responsive, and innovative partnerships across both campuses and with academic partners. Specifically, the Managing Director is responsible for the oversight of the Centre for Accessibility, the Centre for Community Engaged Learning, the Centre for Student Involvement & Careers, and International Student Development.
The ideal candidate is a dynamic student affairs professional who will be engaged in supporting a vibrant and future-oriented department. As an inclusive leader, the Managing Director will use a collaborative approach in the development of student affairs strategic plans, policies and programs and will ensure the department embodies the institution’s core values in their implementation. With experience overseeing a similarly complex and diverse portfolio, the Managing Director will have an expressed commitment and experience with equity-deserving student populations and experience fostering environments and advocating for equity, diversity, and inclusions of all students.
