Bishop’s University, located on the traditional and unceded territory of the Abenaki people in Sherbrooke, Quebec, seeks a dynamic and collaborative Special Advisor, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI) to be a member of this vibrant community of learning. Bishop’s University offers to more than 2,700 full-time students more than 100 programs in a wide variety of disciplines including Fine Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Business and Education. As Bishop’s continues its trajectory of growth and development, the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion have become core to the commitment of fostering diversity and inclusion within the community. The Special Advisor EDI will work with the University community to develop and implement EDI strategies, plans, training and events to support a culture of diversity and inclusion.

This full-time, permanent role will report to the Chief of Staff for the Office of the Principal and Vice-Chancellor and will provide advice to the senior administration on EDI matters. The Special Advisor will be responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing programs which promote equity and inclusion for students, faculty and staff.  This new role will work to foster an inclusive, engaged university environment where individual differences are recognized, embraced and valued. Key responsibilities will include leading the development and integration of diversity and inclusion programs, serving as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert, supporting the work of the University’s EDI Task Force, planning and executing EDI initiatives, playing a key role in policy and guideline development, designing and implementing performance indicators, surveys and accountability best practices for EDI. The Special Advisor will lead the development of the University’s EDI recruitment strategy, provide support to the EDI Action Plan for the Canada Research Chairs (CRC) Program at Bishop’s, work closely with the Ombudsperson, represent the University on external and internal committees and serve as a subject matter expert.

The ideal candidate will possess a post-secondary degree (Master’s degree preferred) or education and training in a field or discipline related to equal rights, social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, along with five-eight years experience developing and delivering related programs and initiatives. The Special Advisor, EDI will bring a strong knowledge of anti-oppression, EDI principles and practices and a background in providing training to diverse audiences. The candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, strategic and critical thinking skills and the ability to handle sensitive issues while maintaining the respect and confidentiality of everyone involved. Fluency in English and French and experience in post-secondary education sector preferred.
