Director of Parks, Recreation, and Culture

The City of Delta is home to approximately 100,000 residents and prides itself on its past and its sustainable future as part of the Metro Vancouver region. Delta encompasses 180 square kilometres bordered by the Fraser River on the north, the United States border and Boundary Bay on the south, the City of Surrey on the east and the Strait of Georgia on the west. Its estimated household average income is 30% higher than the Canadian average and the city has one of the fastest growing industrial areas in Greater Vancouver with an unparalleled lifestyle offered to residents.

Delta has always demonstrated a strong commitment to the promotion of healthy, well-balanced lifestyles for its citizens through the provision of outstanding programs, services and amenities overseen by the City’s Department of Parks, Recreation & Culture. The impact of COVID-19 has only served to increase this commitment and the City is searching for a progressive and passionate leader to take on this key leadership role, that is a result of a planned retirement.

The Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture is responsible for the professional leadership and strategic management of key functions including the provision of affordable and accessible recreation, parks, green spaces and cultural activities in the City of Delta. The Director reports to the City Manager and provides strategic advice to the organization, Mayor and Council, in support of the City of Delta’s Strategic Plans and Council direction and priorities. The Director oversees a budget of approximately $30 million dollars and has accountability for a significant capital budget and asset management plan focused on revitalization and renewal of a number of the City’s assets. In addition, the Director is responsible for developing a long-term strategic plan for the functional area, considering the wide array of partners that contribute to the overall well being of the community.
