In response to the call for proposals under the Canada Research Chairs (CRC) Program, the Université de Sherbrooke (UdeS), one of the greatest research universities in Canada, is seeking candidatures to fill a position for a Tier 1 CRC.

This Chair relates to one of the unifying themes identified by the UdeS. It will be attached to either the Business School, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Engineering (external applications only), the Department of Psychology of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (internal applications only and in line with the unifying theme of "Togetherness" within the field of study of marital adjustment), the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences or the Faculty of Science.

The Chairholder’s home faculty shall be determined based on their expertise and the direction of their research program. Unsuccessful candidates for the Chair may be invited to fill other tenure-track Canada Research Chair positions available in the future.

The UdeS is committed to prioritizing these values as strategic factors of excellence. This commitment is stated in its Plan d’action d’équité pour les programmes interorganismes (2017-2022).

Also affirming its will to contribute to reconciliation and healing, the UdeS has been deploying, for the past few years, various joint initiatives with members of the First Peoples, to better understand and promote their realities and their cultural heritage.

The UdeS invites all qualified individuals to apply, in particular, women, members of visible and ethnic minorities, Indigenous peoples and persons with disabilities under the Programme d’accès à l’égalité en emploi (PAEE). As such, the selection tools can be adapted to the needs of persons with disabilities who request them, in complete confidentiality.

The UdeS also encourages individuals of all sexual orientations and gender identities to apply. Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.

Applications identified for CRC must allow the UdeS to progress in reaching its representation targets for women, members of visible minorities, persons with disabilities and Indigenous peoples.

As such, applications from Indigenous peoples or women will be given priority. Indigenous peoples are those who belong to one or more of the following groups: First Nations; Métis People of Canada; Inuit.

The candidates’ main field of expertise must deal with one of the unifying themes identified by the UdeS:

The CRC Program was established by the Government of Canada to attract and retain some of the world’s most accomplished and promising minds.

The candidates sought are exceptional, world-class researchers recognized by their peers for their achievements in their field. The candidates must propose a promising, innovative research program of the highest quality, while demonstrating interest and competency in teaching.

The successful candidate will be selected by a selection committee according to the following criteria:

  • Scientific relevance of the proposal;
  • Structuring impact of the proposal with respect to the research themes of the UdeS and its programs;
  • Candidate’s match with the orientations of the UdeS;
  • Given the pool of potential candidates, the person’s contribution to achieving institutional targets regarding equity and diversity, in particular for designated groups under the Employment Equity Act;
  • Compliance with the selection criteria for Tier 1 CRC.

Please visit the website of the CRC Program for more information about the program and candidate eligibility criteria:

In accordance with the diversity and equity objectives, career interruptions for parental, medical and family leave are considered in assessing the applications. Candidates are encouraged to identify such periods in their curricula vitæ or cover letters.
