Hospice Halifax is a compassionate and supportive community of staff, volunteers, and donors dedicated to making dying and living as comfortable and as meaningful as possible at the end of life. Hospice Halifax’s residence is an inclusive space where individuals and their families receive personalized and dignified end-of-life care and provides opportunities for patients and families to uniquely address practical, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs while preparing for the patient’s death. Every year, Hospice Halifax welcomes approximately 150 terminally ill patients facing the end of life, including vulnerable seniors, people living with physical disabilities, and people who are precariously housed.
Reporting to the Board of Directors of Hospice Halifax, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will ensure the successful management and administration of the entire organization and its programs, and advance the organization’s culture, capabilities, processes, and impact. In collaboration with the Board, you will help define the strategic direction of the organization over the next five years and lead Hospice Halifax through its next stage of evolution and growth. You will build and maintain quality relationships with an array of stakeholders including the Board of Directors and leadership team, Nova Scotia Health Authority and other key governmental and social service agencies, donors, community groups, healthcare providers, volunteers, etc. You will ensure consistent standards of practice, compliance, and reporting while overseeing all operational, financial and administrative functions of the organization. You will provide inspirational and innovative leadership to a dedicated team and implement an organizational design that ensures all strategic and operational objectives are consistently met. As the public face and lead spokesperson of Hospice Halifax, you will enhance its profile within the community, advocate on its behalf, expand upon its fund development capabilities, make a significant contribution to its long-term success by maintaining a passionate commitment to the organization’s mission, vision and values and help position Hospice Halifax as a Centre of Excellence in Atlantic Canada.
As the ideal candidate, you are highly experienced in senior leadership roles, preferably within not-for-profit organizations, and you have deep experience in relationship management, stakeholder and community relations. You have the business and financial acumen required to accomplish the operational, financial and strategic objectives of Hospice Halifax and to consistently identify opportunities for improving patient care and continuing the positive impact of Hospice Halifax within the community. Highly compassionate and empathetic, you are a good listener who is open-minded, flexible and committed to teaching/ coaching, and you have a leadership style that is affable, approachable and inclusive. You inspire others to reach new heights of dedication, effectiveness and success in driving the mandate of Hospice Halifax in being a community of compassion and care dedicated to providing the best end of life possible for patients and their families. A CFRE or CAGP designation and experience within a hospice/ palliative care environment would be considered assets.
