Senior Director, Indigenous Collaboration

The Senior Director, Indigenous Collaboration counsels the President & CEO in advocacy and engagement efforts with the Indigenous communities as well as federal and provincial authorities to improve health delivery and equity outcomes. 

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Senior Director, Indigenous Collaboration collaboratively supports the Hospital leadership team as well as the Board of Directors. They will ensure the Hospital's Indigenous Health priorities are authentic to the needs of the region's Indigenous communities, and that the Health Research Institute advances the health research priorities of Indigenous researchers and communities. The Senior Director acts as the first point of contact for any questions or concerns from our Indigenous leaders and communities of North Western Ontario.  Political savvy and a solid track record of building and fostering relationships with diverse communities, health care organizations and government is a requirement of this high profile role. 

The Senior Director, Indigenous Collaboration's portfolio is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and evaluating all activities of the portfolio in order to provide the delivery of high quality service.

The successful candidate will have:


*  University degree or diploma in political or social sciences, or similar related field;


*  3‑5 years of experience in the development, implementation and support of Indigenous Health strategies within an organization;

*  Demonstrated work experience as a collaborator, leader, and manager of programs/projects requiring Indigenous engagement and partnerships;

Skills  (in addition to behavioural competencies identified above)

*  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including preparing reports and briefing notes;

*  Excellent interpersonal, facilitation and mediation skills;

*  Proven strong project management skills with ability to multi‑task and set priorities within tight timelines;

*  Ability to demonstrate honesty and integrity in all dealings with internal and external stakeholders;

*  Good computer skills including Internet, word processing, PowerPoint, email, etc.


*  Knowledge of and experience with the diversity of Indigenous peoples in Northwestern Ontario and Indigenous protocols, including awareness of Indigenous Health systems and First Nations governance;   

*  Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous lived experience, Indigenous knowledge systems, colonization, intergenerational trauma, and the complexities of health care and Indigenous peoples;

*  Knowledge of and experience working in Strategic Perspective to adopt a long‑term view of Indigenous Health initiatives and see the whole picture in complex situations;

*  Traditional language skills are an asset;

*  Knowledge of health care utilization pressures and familiarity with Local Health Integration Networks is an asset
