The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Queen’s University invite applications for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair Tenure-track faculty position in future communication networks, including, but not exclusively, wireless connectivity for the Internet of Things, complex networked systems, machine learning/intelligence for large-scale data networks and 6G self-aggregating networks. This research area aligns with Queen’s strategic mandate. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor depending on experience and qualifications. A tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor may be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates. The preferred starting date is July 1, 2019.

The successful candidate must hold a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering or related discipline completed at the start date of the appointment. Licensure as a Professional Engineer in Canada, or eligibility to acquire licensure in Canada, is an essential requirement. Postdoctoral or industrial experience is considered to be an asset. The successful candidate will provide evidence of high-quality scholarship with demonstrated potential for leadership and international stature within the communication networks area. Also essential is the potential for success in securing external research funding, outstanding teaching contributions at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and an ongoing commitment to academic and pedagogical excellence in support of the department’s programs. Successful candidates must possess an ability to work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment and will also be expected to eventually make substantive service contributions to the department, faculty, university, and/or broader community. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Historically a pioneer within the telecommunications area, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is medium-sized with 25 full-time and 7 cross-appointed faculty, 470 undergraduate students, and 170 graduate students. The department offers undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs in electrical and computer engineering as well as a unique entrepreneurial engineering program referred to as the ECE Innovation Stream, ECEi.

The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department’s Communications and Signal Processing Group includes collaborating members from the department of Mathematics and Statistics and the School of Computing.  The ECE department is also home to Queen’s Centre for Energy and Power Electronics Research (ePOWER) as has connections to: Canadian Microelectronics Corporation (CMC), Nanofabrication Kingston, Human Mobility Research Centre, Green Centre Canada, Innovation Park, and Dunin-Deshpande Queen’s Innovation Connector.

Canada Research Chairs are established as part of a national strategy to foster research excellence. The candidate must meet the requirements for the position of Tier 2 Chair as defined by the CRC program. Tier 2 Canada Research Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars who are less than 10 years from their highest degree at the time of nomination. Applicants who are more than 10 years from their highest degree due to career breaks may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 CRC assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process.
