DIGITAL LIBRARY SPECIALIST, MBAR

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Senior Manager - Technical Research & Education, the Digital Library Specialist undertakes a broad range of digital content research, management, reporting, user engagement and education initiatives designed to support the development and growth of the digital library, website, and collaboration platform for the Mobilizing Building Adaptation & Resilience (MBAR) project; and participates in shaping the content strategy of the Research Portal that will shortly be developed by BC Housing, and ensures that the MBAR Body of Knowledge and training curriculum can be seamlessly integrated with the content strategy and user interface of the Research Portal.

MBAR is a new, multi-year, multi-stakeholder knowledge and capacity building project led by BC Housing, with participation and contribution from over 30 organizations, including from industry and national/provincial/local agencies. Through facilitating and piloting sustainable and resilient design and renovation of buildings, MBAR aims at stabilizing communities in a natural disaster (e.g. earthquake) and helping building owners and occupants better protect their investments and adapt to anticipated climate change stresses (e.g. higher precipitation, warmer summers, fire-related air pollution) and climate change shocks (e.g. severe flooding/fire/windstorms) such that no one is stressed beyond his/her ability to cope.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will have the following:

QUALIFICATION:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent graduate education in Library and Information Studies, or other relevant discipline. 
  • Minimum 4 years progressively more complex and responsible work experience
  • Digital content creation and management
  • Experience in cataloging technical, spatial and multi-media materials from different sources
  • Web design (would be an asset)
  • Using social media to promote library content (would be an asset)

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge and experience in digital content creation and management
  • Ability to design a digital library for specific, professional target audiences
  • Ability to engage professional audiences
  • Ability to develop new communities of practices
  • Comfortable in reaching out to professionals to solicit new information and collect relevant materials
  • Knowledge of engagement and promotion strategies related to digital content
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good knowledge of Windows, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet tools
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint and social media tools, would be an asset
  • Ability to play a leadership role in facilitating or carrying out research and education projects
  • Ability to manage complex issues and build consensus among stakeholders with varying interests
  • Ability to work effectively and diplomatically with a broad range of organizations and individuals, including the general public, residential builders, industry and consumer organizations and all levels of government  
  • Ability to work co-operatively with staff members from other departments in BC Housing
  • Strong conceptual, analytical thinking, research and writing abilities 
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills  
  • Sound judgment in undertaking the work and reaching conclusions 
  • Strong computer skills, and effective and thorough internet research skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to travel throughout BC.
