The Faculty of Education was established in 2007 and recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary – it comprises a B.Ed. program in two divisions, a Master of Education program, a minor in education featuring innovative courses that routinely have waiting lists, and an innovative Mental Health in the Classroom certificate. Maclean’s ranked the Faculty at 13th in the country in 2017 and the Faculty reported a placement rate between 95 to 97 per cent for graduates in 2016. In collaboration with community partners, the Faculty of Education prides itself in preparing educational leaders who inspire lives through learning.
Reporting to the Provost & Vice-President: Academic, the Dean, Faculty of Education is responsible for the strategic direction and overall management of the Faculty, ensuring the Faculty’s research, teaching, service, and learning programs align with the University’s strategic direction, Strategic Academic Plan, Strategic Research Plan, and fulfilling the University’s objectives as outlined in the Strategic Mandate Agreement. The Dean will serve as an advocate for students and faculty as well as an ambassador for the Faculty with external partners, including other academic institutions, industry, and government.
As the ideal candidate, you bring a scholarship/research track record consistent with the level of Professor and possess a doctoral degree in an education-related discipline. You have demonstrated a record of successful academic administrative and leadership experience preferably in units or programs in teacher education. You are familiar with the issues and challenges of teaching and/or administrative positions within K-12 schools. You understand and are committed to conceptual frameworks similar to the Professional Development Schools (PDS) model – oriented towards practice-based, reflective modes of inquiry and progressive teaching and learning models.
