Salary $76,200.06 - $105,700.02 annually

There is currently (1) position available in Kamloops and (2) positions available in either Victoria, Smithers, Fort St. John or Prince George.

The Ministry provides leadership across the provincial government that will, over the next decade, bridge the social and economic gaps that many Indigenous Peoples face in British Columbia. While working collaboratively with Indigenous organizations, the federal government and other partners to support the goals of the New Relationship, the Ministry will continue to negotiate and implement treaties and other lasting agreements with First Nations.

The Negotiator participates in negotiations of non-treaty agreements on behalf of the Province with First Nations. The Negotiator leads substantive negotiations, provides strategic planning advice and approaches to negotiations and formulates negotiation strategies through consultation with line ministries. The incumbent leads the development of resilient relationships with First Nations and develops innovative reconciliation and engagement strategies with First Nations to advance the provincial economy, job creation, economic diversification, and revenue to the Crown. The Negotiator is accountable for leading the initiation, negotiation and implementation of cross-ministry agreements with First Nations and collaboration with stakeholders and natural resource ministries/agencies.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant area and 3 years related and progressively more responsible experience; or 
  • University degree in a relevant area and 5 years related and progressively more responsible experience; or
  • Technical diploma in a relevant area and 7 years related and progressively more responsible experience; or other relevant combination of the education and related experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of five years of recent (obtained in the last 7 years) and related experience.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Individuals who identify as Indigenous.
  • Experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities.
  • Management level experience.
