Our Waterloo office is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing Canadian Operations. This position will support our Structural Engineering group for multi-discipline projects in various industries including water/wastewater, energy, solid waste, food and agricultural, environmental and water resources. Our projects range from full industrial facility design to individual structures and include buildings, concrete foundations, concrete tanks and chambers, retaining walls, structural steel frames, masonry structures, equipment foundations and hydraulic structures.
The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:
- Structural analysis and design of new concrete, steel or masonry construction and rehabilitation of existing structures;
- Oversee the production of engineering drawings and technical specifications from conception to final design according to established standards and procedures;
Be involved in field activities such as general reviews during construction, structural condition assessments and providing field support for projects under construction;
Provide peer review of structural designs, drawings, specifications and contract documents to ensure design accuracy, conformance with specified codes and verify that they meet quality standards and client specifications;
Assist with estimates of structural effort for proposals;
Communicate and work with multi-discipline project team members to provide quality service to clients.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural specialty;
Minimum 10 years of experience with structural design projects in general;
10 or more years of experience in Consulting performing structural design of industrial and commercial facilities would be considered an asset;
Registered Professional Engineer with Professional Engineers of Ontario;
Conversant with CSA structural design/materials codes and specifications including concrete, structural steel, masonry and cold-formed steel as well as have a good working knowledge of Ontario and Canadian Building Codes;
Familiarity with structural design software and standard Office software is essential; experience with Robot Structural Analysis, SAP or similar software would be considered an asset;
Experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM), AutoCAD and REVIT is an asset;
Excellent communication skills is essential;
Strong problem solving and decision making abilities;
Excellent organization and time management skills with ability to work in a complex environment often driven by project deadlines;
