The Vice President Corporate Development is a multi-dimensional position, reporting to the CFO, with responsibilities spanning all business units and functions.  The role is responsible for driving inorganic growth by creating, assessing and managing development opportunities including, but not limited to; acquisitions, mergers, joint ventures, partnerships and major capital projects.  Additionally, the Vice President Corporate Development will be called upon to support management in ad hoc advisory and consulting roles.

The Vice President Corporate Development is part of the Senior Leadership Team with the Enterprise Finance Group.


  • Work with business leadership to articulate actionable business unit strategies

  • Work with business units to identify actionable opportunities for inorganic growth

  • Initiate and build relationship with target companies, positioning Samuel as the buyer of choice

  • Develop and maintain relationship with financial institutions, agents, consultants and others in order to create a robust M&A pipeline

  • Respond to opportunistic inorganic growth situations

  • Valuation and evaluation (quantitative and qualitative review) of inorganic growth opportunities including financial modeling, market assessment, strategic position, synergies, risk etc.

  • Completion of NDAs/ CAs and adherence to their terms

  • Structure, negotiate and prepare LOI’s

  • Direct and conduct due diligence reviews

  • Negotiation of agreements; purchase and sale, joint venture, partnership etc.

  • Develop and present recommendation memoranda for the board of directors

  • Participate in planning for and completion of Closing and Integration

  • Prepare and present investment reviews

  • Manage corporate development staff

  • Undergraduate degree (most suitable would be business/commerce, alternates are likely to include accounting, finance, engineering, economics, management, law)

  • MBA or CFA or CBV or CPA is desirable

  • Sales experience is desirable

  • 10+ years’ successful track record in valuing and evaluating manufacturing businesses or major capital projects (at least 5 years within an operating business) and executing transactions

  • Meaningful negotiation experience
