Our Ontario Regional Design Centre in the Waterloo office is looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to take on the role of Civil Design Engineer to serve the role of Group Leader with the goal of growing and developing a civil design team to support our growing Canadian Operations.

As a member of the multi-discipline design team, the successful candidate will contribute to and be responsible for all civil aspects of multi-discipline projects in various industries including water/wastewater treatment, energy, solid waste, food and agricultural, environmental and water resources.  Our projects range from full facility design to smaller facility expansions. 

The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with design management team and other disciplines (structural, mechanical and electrical) to develop, manage and deliver civil design projects;

  • Communicate and work with multi-discipline project team members to provide quality service to clients to ensure that all documentation conforms to client/company standards

  • Preparation of technical documents including civil drawings, technical specifications, scope of work, bill of materials, schedules, and related contract documents.

  • Coordination of civil design (cross-functionally) with other engineering disciplines (process, mechanical, structural, electrical, etc.), vendors, and outside design team members. Providing direction to and coordination with internal designers/drafters team.

  • Preparation of technical memorandums, reports, budgets, cost estimates, and correspondence.

  • Performing and verification of civil design calculations.

  • Coordination and liaison with clients and approving authorities. Occasional outside meetings including preparation of agendas and meeting notes.

  • Technical review and quality control of design drawings and documents.

  • Professional sealing of technical documents.

  • Support of construction activities including review of submittals and shop drawings, evaluation of proposals, payments, and change orders, periodic fieldwork and travel including construction inspection and contractor liaison/oversight.

  • Engage in the development of office procedures and standards and facilitate their implementation into projects;

  • Supervising and mentoring of junior staff,

  • Assistance in proposals and business development

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • B.A.Sc. in Civil Engineering
  • Registered member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario

  • 8+ years of experience in related civil site design with proven experience with large and complex project delivery including Zoning and Bylaw interpretation and implementation, Site Plan Approval, Conservation Authority permitting

  • Good working knowledge of Canadian and Ontario building codes and standards, municipal zoning, relevant industry standards and regulations

  • Self-motivated, with strong desire to learn and grow a team of civil design professionals

  • Well organized, with the ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and written/oral communication skills

  • 5 or more years of experience in Consulting

  • Positive attitude, excellent communication skills

  • Excellent organization and time management skills with ability to work in a complex environment often driven by project deadlines
