The U of A’s Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation (KSR) is dedicated to high quality research and education in physical activity, sport, and recreation. Widely seen as one of the most successful in Canada, KSR is ranked among the top ten in the world by the QS World University Rankings for outstanding teaching and interdisciplinary research in sports-related subjects. With 38 faculty members, the Faculty is home to over 1180 undergraduate and 150 graduate students, and offers five undergraduate degree programs, three Masters programs, and the first PhD program in Physical Activity in the Commonwealth. Through the development of graduate certificates in Indigenous Sport and Recreation and Adapted Physical Activity, and the work of the Steadward Centre in facilitating adapted physical activity and para sport opportunities for adults, youth, and children experiencing disability, KSR has demonstrated a commitment to nurturing a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive Faculty. Reporting to the Provost & Vice-President (Academic), the Dean is accountable for the Faculty’s strategic vision, for fostering an inclusive, collaborative, and equitable culture, for ensuring the academic quality and integrity of its programs and operations, for championing fundraising efforts and outreach, and for enhancing the Faculty’s research profile. The ideal candidate will be a strong scholar with a PhD, appointable to the rank of Full Professor, and will have significant administrative experience earned in a complex environment. In addition, the Dean must demonstrate a commitment to the principles of collegial governance and bring a track record of promoting interdisciplinary scholarship. They will embrace and promote equity, diversity, and inclusivity in all of its forms, be an effective communicator and motivator, bring excellent networks (nationally and internationally), and have a strong orientation to relationship building, both inside the University and externally.
