Our client, The Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society, provides for the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being of all peoples through the development of community-based services, while encouraging the community to preserve, share and promote Aboriginal cultural distinctiveness. 

They are currently hiring an Operations Manager who will support the Executive Director in running the Society.  This is a senior level role responsible for managing all day-to-day operational and administrative functions including managing people and organizational performance, developing systems, new processes and procedures, reviewing and managing existing programs, developing long-term strategic business plans and help with the creation of the operational budget. As the successful candidate, your strong understanding of team dynamics, managing people, human resources practices and effective people skills, will be critical as you provide leadership, direction and guidance,  to the team.  As an experienced leader you will be comfortable providing feedback and guidance for decision-making related to internal and external employee situations while maintaining a positive and cooperative work environment.

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Scheduling, directing, and advising various teams and departments;
  • Enabling teamwork and collaboration through information sharing meetings with all departments;
  • Monitoring staff reports to ensure that documentation is accurate and complete as per legislation and policy;
  • Managing programs such as recruitment and selection as well as ensuring consistent application of the performance evaluation program and performance improvement initiatives;
  • Ensuring that internally and externally mandated programs are followed, including the absenteeism process, WorkSafe, and Occupational Health and Safety;
  • Managing the Society’s IT function from a holistic and systems perspective, ensuring all IT related systems are cost effective;
  • Managing contracts with external service providers related to the phone system, IT systems, office equipment, and building maintenance;
  • Maintaining confidentiality and security of data related to clients, employees, the Society, other organizations, and proprietary information;
  • Performing other work, as required, to support the Society in the work that it performs, or to facilitate growth.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is considered an asset;
  • Experience working within the not-for-profit sector (preference will be given to those with experience working within Indigenous organizations);
  • Prior experience managing and leading people;
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures, history, and the systemic barriers facing Indigenous peoples;
  • Excellent financial management skills;
  • Strong knowledge of information technology systems and thorough knowledge of MS Office suites;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent problem solving, attention to detail and organizational skills;
  • Class 5 (minimum) driver’s license, and access to a reliable vehicle;
  • Satisfactory criminal record check required.
