Known as a centre of excellence for undergraduate teaching, Vancouver Island University (VIU) produces quality graduates who are in demand by employers in the local community and region, across the country and around the world. VIU offers three supportive campus communities to a highly diverse student population, focused on innovative teaching methods, undergraduate and graduate research, scholarly activities, open access, and creating an exceptional learning experience for our students. Located on British Columbia’s spectacular West Coast on the traditional territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, VIU is committed to working in partnership with Indigenous peoples.

Fostering a forward-thinking, inclusive, and respectful environment within a unionized context, the Dean of the Faculty of Management develops and empowers a team of 100+ faculty, support staff, and administrators to ensure continuous improvement and evolution of a range of programs and services supporting students’ learning, needs, and success. The Dean is a champion for the faculty and the institution, and is responsible for advancing excellence in teaching and learning, research, scholarship, and creative activities, and for the development, delivery, and ongoing quality review of innovative programs and initiatives within the Faculty. The Dean identifies, initiates, and cultivates strategic relationships with internal peers, external partners and stakeholders in representing the interests and building the profile of the Faculty, the university, and its programs. The Dean also works to advance and support VIU’s commitment to working in partnership with Indigenous peoples, as laid out in VIU’s Strategic Plan, and to be a leader in supporting Indigenous learners and building relationships in the community.

As the ideal candidate, you are a visionary leader and resilient change manager who can develop and articulate a bold vision aligned with the university’s strategic, academic, and research plans, and you have the proven collaborative skills to make the vision a reality. You are experienced with the complexities of the post-secondary landscape, including: experience supporting a large international student population; working with First Nations partners to Indigenize curriculum; bridging relationships between academy and industry; and supporting outstanding teaching and learning practices. You bring an inclusive and empowering leadership style and are recognized for leveraging excellent relationship skills to move things forward effectively and efficiently. Your experience as a faculty member and administrator is augmented by a graduate degree – ideally at a doctoral level or equivalent, and related to the programmatic areas of the Faculty.

Vancouver Island University embraces the principle of employment equity and encourages applications from women, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, and people of Indigenous descent.

VIU has been awarded a BC’s Top Employer award for the last three years from the Top Employers program.
