POSITION SUMMARY

 

In this new role, the Manager, Human Resources will provide key operational and strategic support across all areas of the Vector Institute, an independent, not-for-profit corporation dedicated to research in the field of artificial intelligence, excelling in machine learning and deep learning. 

 

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources & Corporate Services the successful incumbent will provide leadership support across several areas of the Human Resources function including the ideation and implementation of new HR programing, coaching and business partnership support, creation and implementation of a revised compensation program, execution of EDI action plans, strategic initiatives in employee engagement and more.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Provide leadership and coaching support to members of the Human Resources team, overseeing the completion, quality, and legal compliance of all work undertaken within the HR function;
  • Act as the lead for the execution, maintenance, ongoing compliance and continuous improvements of existing programming, and the recommendation and direction of the roll-out of new HR projects, programs and initiatives in support of Vector’s vision, mission, strategy and culture;
  • Acting as a business partner, provide strategic and tactical advice, coaching, and counseling support on employment-related issues across all HR disciplines including the interpretation and application of legislation, corporate policies, organizational design, Vector-specific programs and processes, and highly sensitive employee relations matters ensuring both consistent application and operational compliance;
  • In partnership with the Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, lead in the review and redesign of Vector’s Compensation Policy including Salary Bands and Incentive Program;
  • Oversee the execution of Vector’s EDI strategy and program, engaging key stakeholders, recommending priorities, and driving engagement and success in key EDI initiatives;
  • Oversee the implementation of a talent mapping and succession planning program for the Vector Institute;
  • Lead in the strategic execution of the bi-annual employee engagement survey. In partnership with the Human Resources Generalist, review and analyze survey results and partner with key stakeholders to develop, apply, and evaluate meaningful plans of action in response;
  • Recommend and draft impactful human resources and other corporate policies as needed;
  • Take a leadership role in Vector’s continued Covid-19 related continuity planning;
  • In partnership with the Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, lead in the planning and execution of bi-annual meetings of the Human Resources and Compensation Committee;
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

 

KEY SUCCESS MEASURES

 

  • Feedback from Vector staff and other stakeholders validates that HR is viewed as approachable, trusted, respected, and for providing valued services, counsel and support;
  • Staff reporting to the Manager are effectively managed with performance and developmental support provided;
  • HR achieves all objectives for its annual and strategic HR business plans;
  • People processes at Vector run smoothly, accurately and error free;
  • Employee relations matters are resolved in an ethical fair manner in alignment with Vector’s policies and culture that mitigates risk for the Vector Institute.
  • Vector maintains legislative compliance with its employment policies and programs;

 

PROFILE OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

 

  • A graduate from an HR post-grad diploma programme or holds an undergraduate degree in a related field;
  • 3+ years of relevant HR leadership experience in complex, intellectually challenging, and fast-paced, high-growth organizations; CHRP designation or in progress;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a broad portfolio of HR responsibilities spanning a variety of HR functional areas, including Talent Acquisition, Employee Relations, Training, in an organized manner, while maintaining a calm, professional demeanour;
  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading high functioning teams;
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, human rights, accessibility, and equity;
  • Highly effective client and candidate relationship management skills, working with stakeholders ranging from Executives to employees and world-class faculty and students;
  • Accurate and has highly developed and effective written and verbal communication skills; and
  • Passionate about supporting and developing talent and in contributing to Vector’s success in achieving its mission and strategic objectives.
