What does the Indigenous Wellness and Reconciliation team do?

The IWR team guides Providence Health Care in its commitment to advance Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, informed by seminal reports like In Plain Sight (2021) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. All of us at Providence are responsible for advancing Indigenous human rights in partnership with Indigenous Peoples, through processes underpinned by mutual respect and dignity. We also continually seek to maximize our capacity to deliver exceptional, culturally safe care to the Indigenous patients that we serve. The Indigenous Wellness and Reconciliation team is an integral part of guiding and leading this work.

Implementing innovative solutions to challenges is a key part of advancing culturally safe, identify-affirming care. The implementation of innovative solutions often involves multiple teams and services, and requires coordination and respectful collaboration.

The Vice-President of Indigenous Wellness and Reconciliation, @Harmony Johnson leads the team through a strong vision and provides flexibility and autonomy. Members of the Leadership Group include @Sheri Hundseth, Neil Fowler, Fancy Poitras, Lindsay Beck, Brenna Latimer and Theo Jakob.

What you will do:
As the Project Manager, reporting directly to the Director, Planning and Project Management, Indigenous Wellness and Reconciliation (IWR), you will be responsible for managing several aspects of the Indigenous Wellness and Reconciliation Action Plan, and work with other project managers and leaders across the organization to successfully implement projects. If you share our passion for advancing Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, supporting exceptional, culturally safe care and improving physical spaces for Indigenous patients, this position is for you. Some specifics include:

• Partner with xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, sḵwx̱wú7mesh, and səl̓ílwətaɬ (the sovereign Host Nations) and support the engagement of Indigenous signatories to establish a first-of-its-kind Indigenous Wellness and Welcoming Centre on the grounds of the new St. Paul's Hospital health campus as a meaningful contribution to healing and Reconciliation. Contribute to the cultural safety of our health care settings and facilities by working with partners across PHC and draw on Indigenous engagement to expand and/or create designated spaces for Indigenous patients to practice ceremony and spiritual and cultural care. Review and make necessary changes to the artwork and displays in Providence facilities from a cultural safety perspective. Support the team’s research and data initiatives including qualitative analysis. You will develop detailed project plans, meet with leaders to collaborate on projects, track the status of ideas, report on progress, and help us to celebrate our successes.

About you:

• University degree in a related field such as health administration, public health, political or social science, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Five (5) to seven (7) years’ recent, related and progressive experience managing projects. A good understanding of project management. Action-oriented, and use process to support results. Effective communicator and relationship builder with a divers group of internal and external stakeholders. A basic understanding of change management principles. Able to thrive in an evolving environment.

Preference will be given to those with the following experience, but not required:

• Have a background working in an Indigenous organization or with Indigenous peoples Knowledge of BC’s public health care system and Indigenous research

What we offer:

• The salary range for this role is $77,822- $111,869 per year, depending on experience. A comprehensive health benefit package, including dental, vision, and life coverage. An orientation session and comprehensive onboarding to all new hires. This position will be required to be on site at St. Paul’s Hospital in downtown Vancouver at least once a week.
