Hospitality Services (HS) at Western University is passionate about delivering superior quality in food, nutrition and service, and strives to support the over-all mission and goals of the University. Hospitality Services serves over 32,000 people on a daily basis through 3 interdependent departments - Campus Operations, Residence Dining, Conferences, Catering & Event Services. We have over 600 employees working in Hospitality Services providing our guests with a wide variety of options and choices to fulfill their dietary needs.

 

Responsibilities

 

The Operations Manager, Campus Eateries is responsible for the operations, financial controls, team leadership, sales and marketing, revenue generation, payroll, customer service, recruitment (internal and external) and training, menu, recipe, concept development and Health and Safety of the Campus Operations, presently that accounts for 25 units/eateries. The role is also responsible for menu pricing strategies for our own internal concepts, and all franchises on campus in conjunction with on campus partners, proper communication to all areas involved and the changing and updating of all menu boards affected. The role is required to meet the needs of a broad, diverse client base including members of the University community, students, faculty and staff while ensuring a high standard of service by providing efficient, professional and personable service to every customer. The Operations Manager, Campus Eateries must continue to grow revenues while managing costs effectively and ensuring excellent customer satisfaction. This position, in conjunction with Associate Director, is responsible for overseeing the off-campus meal plan program and the Ivey School of Business foodservice contract, as well as Ivey food service budgets for both Ivey Starbucks and Eatery. In their absence, the role is expected to fill in for the Associate Director, Campus Eateries.

 

Qualifications

 

Education:

- University Degree; a concentration in business (e.g. BCOMM); hotel and/or food management is preferred

 

Experience:

- 7 years' relevant leadership experience in a management role

- Experience supervising in a unionized environment

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Ability to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with customers, peers and external stakeholders.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence dealing with all levels of an organization

- Strong business acumen with a high customer service orientation

- Strong people management experience with direct accountability for recruitment, on­ going training and development and performance management

- Advanced ability to calculate, comprehend and manage food and labour costs

- Demonstrated ability to plan menus, change pricing and production levels according to fluctuating customer volumes and needs

- Ability to identify unit needs, recommend and assist in the planning of facility layout, floor plans and designs

- Demonstrated analytical ability with a working knowledge of accounting principles, revenue projections and financial statements

- Ability to coach and support team members to achieve a culture of excellence in customer service

- Creative problem solving skills and sound professional judgment, with a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and opportunities, especially regarding confidential or sensitive matters

- Strategic thinking and an entrepreneurial spirit

- High level of initiative and resourcefulness

- The capacity to manage changing priorities while maintaining a stable environment

- Knowledge of technology and trends within the food service industry relating to food preparation, quality, customer service and cleanliness

- Thorough knowledge of workplace safety legislation, food safety legislation, labour relations legislation and relevant provincial and federal tax legislation as it relates to retail sales and meal plans
