Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Fleet Services the incumbent is responsible for the Maintenance Stores and Equipment section of Works Operations and Maintenance Fleet Services as well as the co-ordination of all daily stores functions.
  • Responsible for providing functional guidance to staff and ensuring staff perform their duties in a safe manner, in compliance with Policies and Procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining parts inventory, ensuring stock items are ordered and available in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory based on seasonal business needs
  • Ensure cycle counting program is completed as required.
  • Co-ordinate the daily/weekly assignments and work schedules of the Stores business unit ensuring coverage of shifts.
  • Responsible for developing and monitoring contract/tender documents ensuring its validity, accuracy, and integrity along with recommending changes to contract documents as business needs change
  • Responsible for resolving conflict and dealing with challenging situations that may arise
  • Demonstrate initiative and leadership on the job by constantly searching for ways to improve fleet stores operations and motivate employees to be involved in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Accountable for overseeing and managing special projects such as obsolete inventory removal, continuous improvement projects in the maintenance stores business unit.
  • Be available to provide support to staff working various shifts and locations
  • Perform duties of all stores functions and other duties as assigned, including working the parts counter


Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum grade 12 education is required, post-secondary education in business or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years direct experience in a stockroom, order desk, purchasing and inventory management related experience; or equivalent combination of experience and education will be considered
  • Strong leadership qualities demonstrated through positive interaction with co-workers, customers and other staff, along with ability to build relationships
  • Experience with an automated fleet management system and SAP is essential, basic knowledge of MS Office computer applications within a Transit industry preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of parts (Heavy and light Equipment, mowers, tractors, chippers, etc) along with experience using electronic parts manuals
  • Broad knowledge of contract administration is essential to ensure adherence to parts and equipment contracts.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health Safety Rules, WHIMIS, and Hazardous Goods required
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and provide excellent customer service to staff and suppliers/vendors
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct analysis/interpretation of data, along with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated tact and diplomacy when dealing with challenging situations, along with conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to make sound decisions to reach a win-win solution
  • Class G drivers licence with a clean driving record is required to be able to deliver and pick parts.
