Job Summary

Under the direction of Senior Manager, Parks, the successful candidate will be responsible for the consistent delivery of multiple park programs and functions utilizing all human, vehicle/equipment and other resources in the area.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overseeing the proactive planning, implementation and co-ordination of assigned portfolios
  • Delivers parks services relating to trails and open spaces, active parkland, passive park areas, sports parks, festival and special event venues, programming and amenities
  • Manages the recruitment, training, evaluation and scheduling of staff resources to meet the expectations of the public and Council
  • Ensures due diligence is undertaken by all assigned staff concerning risk management and occupational health and safety issues
  • Develops corporate relationships with representatives of outside agencies boards and organizations within the area
  • Assists the Manager and Director in developing master plans with carrying out feasibility and business studies to meet future growth demands in the City
  • Responsible for administration, monitoring and preparation of the capital and current area budgets
  • Responsible for the operational compliance of statutory requirements of employee human rights, workers compensation, labour standards, environment and property bylaws affecting City building/lands
  • Resolves customer complaints and concerns
  • Recommends through the Manager, Parks Operations, Mississauga's new or revised service levels and delivery policies to meet public needs
  • Prepares Corporate reports and recommendations for the Manager, Parks Operations
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable Purchasing and Procurement By Laws and Policies
  • Required to participate in the On-Call and Standby Program
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.


Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Horticulture, Parks Administration, Public Administration or related field
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of related management and/or supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated supervisory, leadership and team-building skills required
  • Strong interpersonal skills required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to liaise effectively with the public, elected officials and outside agencies
  • Must have strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the principles of park maintenance operations, municipal administration, park facilities management and human resources management.
