About this job
Assistant Auditor Generals (AAG) fill senior roles that are equivalent to Assistant Deputy Ministers, or the C-Suite (i.e. Chief Financial Officer, Chief Information Officer, etc.) in other organizations.
Reporting to the Auditor General (AG) of Canada, the AAG will be a member of the Executive Team that helps the AG carry out her mandate, which includes setting the overall direction of the OAG, establishing policies and procedures for managing people and audits or services, determining the allocation of resources, and serving as a forum for the exchange of information between members and across services. The AAG will be accountable for the quality and results of the products within their portfolio and for ensuring that group members get the direction and support they need to produce the desired results, aligned with the OAG’s core values and strategic plan. The AAG will also have an exciting role in contributing and implementing the OAG’s strategic objectives and transformation initiatives.
Who can apply?
Senior executives (PX or above) of the OAG, senior executives (EX-03 equivalent or above) of the federal public service, and persons residing in Canada who have at least 10 years of experience as an executive and are legally entitled to work and Canadian citizens residing abroad.

Education and Designation
A graduate degree from a recognized university or a valid CPA designation, or an undergraduate degree combined with a designation from a recognized professional association or licencing body.
- Experience* in understanding and managing organizational strengths, challenges, and risks.
- Experience* in establishing a vision for an organization or its various portfolios and has demonstrated the ability to develop and successfully implement a vision.
- Experience* in delivering on strategic objectives.
- Experience* in forging relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including within and outside of the public service, in a collaborative effort to build trust and credibility.
- Experience* managing budgets and financial resources, relating to operating, project, and capital expenditures at the executive level
* Experience is defined as recent and significant experience that is the depth and breadth of experience associated with the performance of duties on a continuous basis over at least 5 years within the past 10 years.
- Candidate holds a valid CPA designation and a graduate degree
- Knowledge in government financial management and audit practices and standards
