The Moose Hide Campaign is an Indigenous-led grassroots movement seeking to engage men and boys, alongside all Canadians, to work together to end violence against women and children. As one of Canada’s most recognizable reconciliation initiatives, the Moose Hide Campaign continues to spread across the country. The movement seeks to engage people from all sectors, cultures, provinces, and territories to learn together, work together, and take personal responsibility and collective action. The Moose Hide Campaign has a priority of supporting learner-centered educational experiences on healthy gender roles, Indigenous issues, and reconciliation within the K-12 education context.

Our small, close-knit team completes their inspirational work in offices located in the Songhees Innovation Centre, on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen (Songhees) People.

Position: Education Outreach and Engagement Officer
Reports to: Director of Education
Location: Remote Position – we welcome candidates from across Canada
Start Date: January 4th, 2023
Salary range: $60 – 65,000 per annum (negotiable, commensurate with experience)
Status: Full-Time, Temporary Position with possibility of extension (January 4th, 2023 – May 26th, 2023). There can be flexibility with the hours for this position depending on where the candidate is located.
The Education Outreach and Engagement Officer works in preparation of Moose Hide Campaign Day to engage schools across the country to promote the campaign’s message of advancing reconciliation and addressing gender-based violence by engaging men, boys, and all Canadians to stand up against violence towards women and children. This includes supporting as many schools as possible to register for Moose Hide Campaign Day on May 11, 2023. The successful candidate will play a key role in enacting an education strategy of outreach and engagement, in addition to developing vital education partnerships with key stakeholders in schools and across the broader educational system including senior administrators, spokespersons and elected officials. The successful candidate will support and facilitate the uptake of Moose Hide Campaign materials in schools. We are looking for a lifelong learner with a passion for social change. They must also have a solid grasp of Indigenous issues and reconciliation, social wellness, and gender issues and dynamics. The campaign is committed to providing an innovative, heart-centered, highly professional, culturally grounded and solution focused organizational culture and is committed to ensuring that everyone on the team is well supported to achieve their best results.
Working closely with the Moose Hide Campaign Director of Education, the Outreach and Engagement Officer:
- Develops and maintains an extensive network of key partners across education systems, ensuring partners are supported in their understanding, engagement, and deployment of the Moose Hide Campaign within the K-12 system. Acts as a key representative of the Moose Hide Campaign within K-12 educational systems. Develops and deploys engagement and outreach to schools and key stakeholders within educational systems. Assists in event coordination related to education engagement. Provides strategic advice and guidance to the Moose Hide Campaign on trends, issues, and opportunities within K-12 systems across Canada. Maintains a knowledge of Moose Hide Campaign’s vision, mission, strategy, and activities.
Other related duties as required.
Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skill Sets and Competencies
- Strong experience in one or more of the following areas: engagement, outreach, coordination, community development, project management. Understanding of Indigenous history and current issues within Canada. Knowledge and experience working in the K-12 education sector would be an asset. Able to plan strategically and act intuitively and quickly in order to efficiently provide education leaders, teachers, and other players with material to ensure they recognize and support campaign objectives. Demonstrated technical and interpersonal skills in developing and maintaining effective partnerships/working relationships within a virtual context. Experience working with communications professionals to develop and deploy communications strategies, online content, and resources for K-12 audiences. Experience in presenting to large and small groups, including virtual presentations. Ability to develop and maintain extensive and well-organized contact databases. Well organized; able to effectively multitask while maintaining professionalism and composure. Able to prioritize and manage time effectively, and to balance competing demands and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Excellent oral and written communications skills in English. French oral and written communication skills would be a strong asset. Ability to work within a team while demonstrating self-motivation and personal responsibility.

- Practical experience and strong facility with Microsoft Office applications required including experience in Microsoft Word Mail Merge.
