Reporting to the appropriate site supervisor, the Utility Labour/General Labour will be responsible to ensure the achievement of general and specific project requirements.

This position is a part of Aecon's Joint Venture with Six Nations within the Ohsweken community.

What You'll Do Here:  

  • Prepare and clean up construction sites
  • Move materials and equipment and perform demolition, excavation, and compaction activities. 
  • Handle and distribute construction materials (e.g., load and unload vehicles with supplies, equipment, and construction materials; move tools, equipment, and construction materials to and from work areas; remove rubble and other debris). 
  • Excavate, backfill, and compact subgrade (e.g., move and level earth using shovels and rakes, operate pneumatic tampers). 
  • Assemble shoring and barricades at construction sites.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Complete repetitive movement. 
  • Perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capacity to lift and work with materials weighing up to 25kg. 
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and environments.

  • An introduction to Aecon, our industry, and Utilities work
  • All requisite health and safety training
  • Valuable job-specific skills training
  • Preparing for work on site and job readiness training 

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Experience working in a similar role within the industry.
  • Significant Indigenous lived experience (local to the project is required)
  • Cross-cultural agility – awareness of/sensitivity to diverse Indigenous culture and history.
  • Physical strength. Stamina, Manual dexterity.
  • A safety-conscious attitude. 
  • A team player who actively contributes to the group in order to complete tasks, meet goals or manage project timelines.
  • Ability to use stairs, ladders, and climb over rough terrain.
  • Capacity to work long hours per day sometimes in rough weather conditions.
  • Capability to work in all weather conditions and environments.
  • Be a champion of inclusion and diversity.

  • Paid In-depth training: Aecon takes pride in providing employees with an in-depth training that prepares them to perform their duties successfully. There will be 4-6 weeks of paid in-class and on-site training.
  • Competitive Compensation: The Labourer is paid a competitive hourly rate aligned to the respective Collective Agreement.
  • Labourer: Starting from $20/hr for an Apprentice Labourer with a potential to earn up to $40/hr as a Skilled Labourer.
  • Union Benefits: Employees are required to join the union upon completion of the training. Employees will be eligible for benefits under the respective union’s collective agreement. Depending on the union and the benefit plan, the plan may include health, dental, prescription, vision and other benefits.
