Job Summary

Create the roadmap for Mississauga's transportation future!

Reporting to the Manager of Municipal Parking, the Transportation Planner will bring value to the section by supporting the development application process and creating and implementing long range parking plans and a cultural shift towards multimodal transportation in Mississauga.

Duties and Responsibilities

As a member of the Municipal Parking Section, you will be required to:

• Assist in the implementation of the Parking Master Plan and Implementation Strategy and other Parking and Transportation Plans
• Review and prepare official plan policies as related to parking
• Develop policy advice and documents to implement Provincial and Regional policies and plans as related to parking
• Review Parking Utilization Studies (PUS) in support of development applications in accordance to the City’s terms of reference
• Prepare comments on PUS and other related items for parking rate reductions as part of the development application review process
• Respond to inquiries and consult with applicants regarding parking studies and reduced parking rate requests
• Be responsible for processing applications for Payment in Lieu of Parking
• Be responsible for reviewing Shared Parking Agreements
• Participate as an expert witness before the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) and other
Tribunals
• Attend Committee of Adjustment hearings on a regular basis
• Develop municipal parking strategies and plans
• Develop and conduct effective consultations with other professionals, the public and various
interest groups
• Research, prepare and present reports on parking and transportation matters to City Council and Committees of Council
• Represent the Municipal Parking Section on inter-departmental and inter-agency projects
• Perform other related duties as assigned
• Ability to attend off-site meetings/site visits and having a ‘G’ drivers licence in good standing.

Skills and Qualifications

• A university degree in transportation planning, urban planning, urban geography or a related
discipline with a minimum of three years experience
• Experience preparing or working with parking utilization studies is required
• Membership or eligibility for membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute is required
• Knowledge of Provincial policies and plans related to transportation and land use
• Highly developed creative thinking, problem solving, research, analytical, oral and written
communication skills required
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Good working knowledge of transportation planning theories, principles and analysis
