Reporting to the Manager, Talent Acquisition the Talent Diversification and Inclusion Specialist will support the City of Mississauga to build a talented, engaged, and diverse workforce. This position will build relationships and partnerships internally and externally, tackle sourcing challenges with creativity, support the development and implementation of departmental, divisional and City-wide Equity Diversity and Inclusion initiatives related to Talent Acquisition. The role will be tasked with setting strategies to attract critical talent from under represented communities. Flexible work arrangements are available for this position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop sourcing strategies in order to provide a continuous flow of candidates from equity deserving communities and attract critical talent from under represented communities
  • Act as a recruitment partner and a subject matter expert to talent acquisition team, hiring managers and other key stakeholders
  • Market the City of Mississauga to equity-deserving communities, the ability to deliver a strong candidate value proposition
  • Co-create, with talent acquisition team, interview plans, assessments and other tools used to determine the suitability of a candidate to a position with an equity lens
  • Contribute to process improvement; provide input on an ongoing basis to enhance recruitment processes and placement of internal staff
  • Partner with and actively build collaborative relationships with community groups and organizations , networks, voluntary sector agencies , educational institutions and private sector
  • Influence and educate talent acquisition team to implement equitable and inclusive hiring practice
  • Report on metrics of sourcing activities
  • Conduct research, participate and represent the City on internal and external relevant committees and events
  • Conduct skills assessment and skills matching for employees requesting short-term and long-term accommodations
  • Other duties as assigned.


Skills and Qualifications

  • University degree with a preferred specialization in Social Sciences, Psychology, Human Resources, Diversity Studies, or related field or equivalent 3-5 years experience in the field of equity, diversity and inclusion required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in building, aligning and implementing enterprise-wide strategies along with EDI best practices.
  • Ability to manage the demands of multiple stakeholders and balance multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated experience coaching and training to various audiences
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in using project management and change management principles.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, including Accessibilities for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005; Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001; Human Rights Code.
  • Exceptional presentation, facilitation, written communication, influencing and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated high level of critical thinking with the ability to perform in a proactive and strategic manner
  • Ability to conduct oneself with tact and diplomacy within a political environment along with a understanding of cultural competency
  • Lived experience as a member of racialized and/or equity-deserving community is an asset
  • Experience working with diverse talent to improve access to services and employment is an asset.
