About us:

At the heart of Community Food Centre Canada’s work is the belief that food is a basic right. We bring people together around good food so communities can thrive. With more than 350 partners across the country, we build inclusive, culturally responsive Community Food Centres, share knowledge, create health-focused programs, and advocate for equitable policy change.

At Community Food Centres Canada (CFCC), we work on behalf of good food for all. Our collective approach at CFCC is founded on dignity and respect, equity and empathy. These values are core to our mission and outlined in our Good Food Principles.

We especially welcome applications from people who are members of racialized groups, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, persons of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities and others with the skills and knowledge to productively engage with diverse communities. We are committed to a selection process and work environment that is inclusive and barrier free.

We have created an Equity, Inclusion, Reconciliation and Anti Oppression (EIRA) Strategic framework which reflects on our organizational journey from the last 5 years and future plan to continue to embed this work. This plan has a focus on utilizing anti-oppressive and anti-racist frameworks with a particular focus on Anti-Indigenous racism and Anti-Black racism.  Part of the next phase of this work includes developing a reconciliation approach and action plan.  We are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive work environment, and welcome candidates to speak about how their experience has demonstrated a commitment to Equity, Inclusion, Reconciliation and Anti-Oppression. The Opportunity

Community Food Centres Canada is seeking an individual with strong facilitation skills and a passion for designing conversations and resources that support collaboration and shared learning across organizations. Working within CFCC’s Knowledge Exchange program, the Network Facilitator will coordinate the activities of the Indigenous Knowledge Sharing Circle, and contribute to content development, facilitation and partner support within the broader Good Food Organizations program, a network of over 400 organizations working on food security programming across Canada.

We’re looking for a thoughtful, creative and passionate individual who is excited to share their cultural and personal perspectives and ideas, and who loves finding ways to create space for others to share their stories.  This position is situated as a key member of a supportive team that works hard to create a space in which all voices are heard, learning from each other is a continuous process, and making adaptations to the way we work, to better support our partners, is an integral part of our success.

The Indigenous Knowledge Sharing Circle continues to grow, and currently has members from over 50 communities across Canada working in Indigenous led food security programs. The network began in September 2018, and is co-created with Community Food Centres Canada and its membership.

The Network Manager will work with support from CFCC program staff to coordinate regular virtual meet ups and gatherings, develop resources including profiling network stories, compiling a collection of Indigenous food program materials, building new relationships and completing program evaluation.

  • Plan, research, and write or create (audio/visual) concise and compelling learning resources (e.g. blogs/articles, program profiles) that profile promising programs/practices and leaders within the community food security sector
  • Align with CFCC values and contribute to the evolution of our culture, and a work environment that is grounded in Equity, Respect, Integrity & Accountability, Collaboration & Engagement, Leadership, Innovation and Impact.

Qualifications

  • First hand knowledge of the protocols and procedures to develop relationships with Indigenous Elders, leaders and knowledge keepers is an asset
  • Understanding of poverty, health, and Indigenous and Northern issues as they relate to food security

  • Knowledge of a range of community-based food programs
  • Excellent writing and communications skills
  • Priorities will be given to qualified Indigenous candidates, and applicants who self-identify as proximate to the communities in the Indigenous Knowledge sharing Network  (or similar experience) on their cover letter
  • Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes equity, Inclusion, and reconciliation  and that strives to work from an anti-racism and anti-oppression framework
  • Demonstrated a commitment to equity, inclusion and reconciliation through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Some of the many benefits of working at CFCC:

  • A comprehensive benefits package including extended health, dental, short and long-term disability insurance, membership in a defined benefit pension plan
  • 15 paid vacation days in your first year, increasing to 20 paid vacation days in your second year of employment (pro-rated), a December break (usually a week) to recharge, wellness days, and access to an Employee Assistance Program
