The Communities We Serve

We are honored to be working and learning within a number of culturally vibrant communities, from Furry Creek to D’Arcy, which are situated on the traditional and unceded territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and Lower Stl’atl’imx First Nations. Nestled in the recreation-rich Sea to Sky corridor you will find beautiful scenery, endless outdoor opportunities and incredibly welcoming people. The Sea to Sky School District enrolls approximately 5100 students K-12, of which approximately 13% identify as being of Indigenous ancestry.



The School District

With an innovative and collaborative culture, the Sea to Sky School District is committed to working side by side with First Nation communities to support Truth and Reconciliation. A committed and dedicated Indigenous Education Council and Indigenous Education Committee guide us in our work in fulfilling the Indigenous Education Enhancement Agreement. Six-year completion rates for students of Indigenous ancestry and for all students exceed provincial averages, and we are working towards equity of post-secondary opportunities. We continue to work on other areas of academic and social emotional learning for all students. A team of Indigenous Support Workers facilitate inclusive language and culture programs. Each school has a teacher representative on the Shared Learnings Committee and every School Improvement Plan incorporates Enhancement Agreement goals. In addition, a Local Education Agreement with the Lil’wat First Nation has been signed and implementation has begun.


The Position

In this high-profile leadership position, and in collaboration with the entire district team, you will champion Indigenous education. With a mission of improving achievement for all children of Indigenous ancestry, you will continue the work of honouring Indigenous culture, pride, language and traditions within our schools. Using your passion and profound knowledge of innovation in education, you will bring forward new ideas and motivate our staff to create and sustain school environments that embrace Indigenous ways of knowing and being. You will build strong alliances and trusting partnerships with Indigenous communities, external organizations and municipal groups. As the leader of this portfolio you will articulate a clear vision of Indigenous education, motivate, and inspire others to meet shared district goals. Collaborative, energetic and culturally attuned, you are able to break down complex concepts and present them in a consistent and engaging manner. You lead by positive example and have the ethical determination to work through challenges in a productive and respectful manner.



You have experience chairing committees, establishing agendas and making recommendations to political Boards and Councils. You have led in a unionized environment and have experience supervising and supporting staff. Creative, innovative and resourceful, you are able to empower others, identify their strength and provide them with opportunities to excel.




You have a Masters degree in education, with a minimum of five years’ experience in a leadership role. You have proven experience in school-based or district level administration and demonstrated experience with managing complex budgets and performing the duties of a line director for a number of schools.




Your unwavering commitment to excellence in Indigenous education, compelling knowledge of best practices in Indigenous learning and deep understanding of Indigenous history, culture, language and families make you an excellent fit for this role.
