With a purpose to protect the public by promoting safe nursing practice, the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), is the regulatory body for over 190,000 registered nurses (RNs), registered practical nurses (RPNs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) in Ontario. Since 1963, CNO has set the requirements for entry to practice, established standards of practice, ensured a high quality of care, and held nurses accountable for their conduct and practice. Located in downtown Toronto, with over 400 staff, CNO acts in accordance with legislation from the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) and the Nursing Act of 1991.
In a newly created role, CNO is seeking to appoint a Manager of Governance and External Relations to develop and implement programs and services to support governance operations and management of external stakeholder relationships.
Reporting to the Director, Strategy, the Manager will create and implement best / current practices within the team and across the organization to provide effective CNO governance support for Council. Researching and recommending governance approaches, as required, will ensure CNO’s Council and CEO have current and relevant information about modern and evolutions in governance practices. Leading preparation for Council and Executive meetings, the manager will develop appropriate meeting materials and collaborate with and support the CEO and other organizational leaders to effectively prepare for and support Council meetings and functions.
The Manager is also responsible for implementing CNO’s external consultation / relations strategy including mechanisms to monitor activities and measure success; applying an enterprise perspective, the Manager will consult with and prepare leaders to leverage opportunities to identify, build and enhance relationships with broad and diverse groups of stakeholders.
As the ideal candidate, you have a relevant undergraduate degree combined with accreditation related to governance. Relevant professional and leadership experience includes responsibility for governance and external stakeholder relationships preferably within a similar sized organization. You are known as a highly collaborative and effective manager who models excellence, respect, and trust. Leveraging superior communication skills, you establish relationships with diverse stakeholder communities, and thrive in complex, changing environments, embracing challenges, and striving for growth. You will join a dynamic team and play a key role in helping to support CNO’s governance and external relationship operations.
