Job Summary

Our team is actively seeking Culture Camps Senior Staff to assist the Culture Camp Coordinator in the delivery and management of comprehensive camp programs in drama, dance, music and visual arts as developed by the Culture Division.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist theCamp Coordinator in the development, implementation and supervision of a diversified Culture camp program in cooperation with the Program Supervisor that supports the Culture Department objectives, philosophies and standards.
  • Assist theCamp Coordinator with preparation of program outlines, daily activities and special events, program supplies and additional programming requirements for camp staff.
  • Visit Culture programs daily; provide direction and ongoing coaching to enhance front line staff artistic program knowledge, teaching techniques and program planning skills.
  • Actively supervise front line staff, ensuring safety standards and establish procedures are being followed.
  • Inform theCamp Coordinator on a daily basis of customer feedback, staff performance, facility and program items.
  • Immediately and effectively respond to program and staff concerns.
  • Maintain a flexible working schedule to ensure supervision and continuity of program.
  • Monitor and replenish required program supplies and equipment.
  • Conduct facility checks daily.
  • Maintain and oversee accurate attendance and medical records for all camps.
  • Accurately prepare and maintain required administrative records.
  • Assist in the development and facilitation of training week for camp staff.
  • Assist in the planning and facilitating of on-site summer staff meetings/ special events as needed.
  • Provide assistance with preparation and administering of staff evaluation as required.
  • Assist the Camp Coordinator with end of season administrative responsibilities as needed. (Program summary and recommendation, inventories.)
  • Effectively provide quality customer service and act as a knowledgeable resource to parents, participants, volunteers and leaders.
  • Effectively and in a timely manner communicate with Summer/Program Supervisor/Designate with regards to all aspects related to facilities, staffing, participants, equipment, supplies or anything that would impact the quality and safe delivery of day to day operations.
  • Deliver camp programs as a substitute leader when required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Education and training in any of the following areas, Teaching, Arts Administration, Art History, Dance, Drama, Music, Arts
  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma
  • Experience supervising part-time staff in an arts/recreational camp setting is preferred
  • Minimum of2 years of experience teaching and leading children and teens in a camp setting.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills required
  • In the water supervision with participants if necessary. Completion of a swimming test
  • Current Emergency First Aid & CPR B certificationfrom a Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) approved provider.Certification must remain current for the full extentof the employment period.
  • A Level 3 - Vulnerable Sector Check will be required of the successful candidate, as a condition of employment, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted prior to start of contract.
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Childhood Development certification by employment start date
  • Light lifting of supplies required
  • Primarily community centre environment at multiple locations. Regular site visits.


Additional Information

Summer Camps will run from July 2 to August 30, 2024.
Staff training will begin at the end of May 2024.
