Job Summary

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Traffic Signals, the successful candidate will co-ordinate and administer the yearly Traffic Signal Contract and related works to ensure the safe and efficient operation of traffic control signals within the City of Mississauga.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the traffic signal system is maintained and operated in accordance to accepted engineering practices, standards and procedures.
  • Prepares tenders, agreements and acquires products within the City’s guidelines.
  • Review of PHM-125 legal drawings to ensure they adhere to legal requirements and are in conformance with engineering practices.
  • Ensure that current signal program inventory requirements are met.
  • Conduct reviews of Capital and Maintenance Projects to ensure accuracy of information and adherence to standards for audit purposes. Ensure financial compliance with respect to Capital and Operating Budgets.
  • Project management of traffic signals and systems, communications and other relevant supporting systems.
  • Audit maintenance contractors invoicing, and administer third party invoicing to Ministry of Transportation Ontario, Regions of Peel & Halton, The Town of Oakville, Ontario One Call, and various contractors and insurance companies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.


Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Traffic Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Certification with OACETT as a Certified Engineering Technologist or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5-7 yearsrelated experience in municipal Traffic Engineering practices involving Traffic Signals/Systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of Advanced Transportation Management Systems (ATMS), including Traffic Signal Control Systems, Communication Systems, Intelligent Transportation Systems, and Fire Pre-emption.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable Acts, By-laws, regulations and standards, including Occupational Health and Safety Act, Highway Traffic Act, Ontario Traffic Manuals, International Municipal Signal Association Standards, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, implementation, and program operation.
  • Ability to implement Audit practices and determine solutions to improve transparency and disclosure requirements.
  • A valid Ontario Class ‘G’ driver’s license and availability of personal vehicle.
