Job Summary

The Supervisor, Maintenance Planning, primary responsible for the development, implementation, coordination and maintenance of a comprehensive maintenance and servicing plan for the MiWay Bus fleet and equipment. The overall planning function incorporates specific activities including preventive maintenance, scheduled servicing, cleaning, overhaul and major repair, new vehicle fleet commissioning, rebuilds, special modifications, warranty servicing and repair, recalls, and special projects.

The overall development and implementation of a plan to achieve maintenance and repair objectives for the fleet that utilizes resources and facilities in an effective and efficient manner. Extensive use of planning and scheduling tools such as maintenance management system EAM Trapeze, historical records, etc. is required, and employees in this class provide coordinative integration between supervisors and others to facilitate the implementation of maintenance plans.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creates complex and integrated work plans to achieve maintenance and service objectives, incorporating elements including routine servicing, preventative maintenance, major and minor repairs and overhauls, fleet commissioning, special projects and related factors.
  • Aids in developing and implementing bus equipment preventive maintenance programs.
  • Directing a preventive maintenance program to minimize cost and maximize use of equipment
  • Oversee safety and maintenance records of MiWay Buses and Vehicles are accurate and up to date.
  • Planning, organizing, and directing the work to meet objectives with the most efficient use of personnel, facilities and equipment, and acts as a contact, facilitator, and problem solver concerning the execution of the plan.
  • Regularly communicating with Supervisor of Administrative Duties and Assistant Superintendent, and dispatch regarding status of equipment.
  • Submitting regular reports including, road calls, break downs, accidents and performance to Transit Maintenance Supervisors and Management Team
  • Utilizes maintenance management planning systems, historical records, and other data to forecast labour, materials and supplies, facility space, time, tool and other resource requirements
  • Identifies resource constraints and develops plan priority and schedule adjustments on the basis of the analysis. Consults with garage supervisors, mechanics, facility directors, and others to coordinate plans, identify needs, and plan priorities and adjustments. Responds to unforeseen circumstances, initiates changes to plans and schedules, and determines when additional resources are required to accomplish objectives.
  • Participates in the development of manpower/workforce deployment planning activities to meet plan objectives and utilize maintenance and repair resources effectively.
  • Aids in preparing budget data, historical data analysis, forecasts and other information to support the service delivery programs.
  • Provides input into the formulation and delivery of mechanic training programs as required.


Required Qualifications

A Minimum of 6 of experience in transit maintenance, exposed to the full range of activities in maintenance operations. For at least 3years, must have increasingly responsible work and supervisory experience, and demonstrated the capability for supervising other employees.
  • Certifications Completion of a training and apprenticeship program in Truck & Coach Technicians (310T) and/ or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) are mandatory.
  • A valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license is required to travel to various site locations. Must meet and maintain the corporate standards for a good driving record.


Additional Qualifications

  • Proficient with the use of a computer, including Microsoft Office Software (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Proven experience dissecting information in all forms and compiling data to allow for efficient analysis
  • Understanding of Manufacturer Maintenance Programs;
    • Abilityto learn and operate HASTUS payroll system and EAM (Trapeze) Maintenance system
    • Intermediate level of expertise in MS-Excel;
    • Ability to work with large amounts of data (filtering and sorting);
    • Ability to use create basic formulas within worksheets to assist in the review of MTO/PML work scopes (last done/next due)
  • Experience in Asset Management, certificate preferred,
  • Experienced in Project Management, certificate preferred,
