Our members include Science Centres, Museums, Planetariums, Aquariums, Zoos, STEM outreach organizations, informal science engagement organizations, and industry supporters.

Job Purpose

The Membership Engagement Lead is key to delivering value to CASC members, particularly by supporting and coordinating professional development opportunities that advance Truth & Reconciliation and diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility (DIEA) priorities.

 

As with all members of the CASC team, the Membership Engagement Lead will uphold the organization’s inclusive culture where we embrace diversity, address systemic barriers, and commit to treating everyone with dignity and respect.  

 

Duties & Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

 

  • Working with the Director of Membership and Strategic Communications, create and implement an annual membership engagement plan to support CASC activities.
  • Working with CASC partners, support the development and delivery of the Change Lab, an emergent initiative focussing on decolonizing STEM/STEAM engagement 
  • Lead the development of activities to increase member engagement opportunities and member benefits.
  • Source and support experts to deliver professional development programs and workshops online and in person, to the CASC Network.
  • Support CASC’s Communities of Practice (CoPs), including communicating with the members of each CoP, scheduling meetings, coordinating speakers, and leading evaluation of CoP effectiveness.
  • Work with the CASC team on coordinating events and programs for the CASC Network, especially CASC’s Annual Conference program, CASCADE Awards, and the Annual General Meeting.
  • Analyze and report on program results and member engagement metrics
  • Collaborate cross-organizationally with multiple internal stakeholders responsible for building content and ensuring alignment and timelines are met.
  • Assess post-event evaluations, analysis, and provide enhancement recommendations to senior staff and leadership.
  • Support membership renewal processing and retention efforts with the Director of Membership and Strategic Communications.
  • Review data trends/analytics related to membership gains, retention, and engagement.
  • Participate in intra-departmental and cross-departmental strategic brainstorming and assist with concept development by providing colleagues with essential data and insights.
  • Assist with the creation and analysis of membership reports and presentations for CASC senior staff and leadership.
  • Coordinate volunteer support for events when required.

 

Qualifications

  • Fluent in English and French an asset
  • Post-secondary education required
  • 2-4 years of professional experience in membership, member engagement, leadership support, or committee support, preferably in a nonprofit and/or association environment. Science engagement experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate in-person and online events and programs successfully.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience supporting programs that incorporate diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility outcomes. 
  • Knowledge and experience of project management and, or event planning processes and procedures.
  • Strong relationship management skills with internal or external stakeholders.
  • Willingness to upgrade skills to be consistent with the position’s requirements and career development opportunities. 
  • Volunteer management experience considered an asset.

To be successful in this role, the Membership Engagement Officer will have the following additional competencies:

  • Ability and willingness to learn quickly.
  • Ability to communicate in English and French, both verbally and in writing is an asset.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and Google Suite software, particularly word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of Association Management Systems; proficiency a plus, particularly experience in GlueUp and Wordpress.
  • Ability to track membership data and create reports.
  • Ability to manage time, take ownership of tasks, and get things done.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Sound professional judgment and discretion.

This salaried position is based on a 7-hour workday, Monday through Friday local time, with occasional evening and weekend work when planned. Infrequent travel within Canada and the US is required. The position is in a remote office with technology provided.
