Chippewas of Rama First Nation, is seeking a
Communications Manager to join their leadership team!

 

The Chippewas of Rama First Nation is located approximately one and a half hours north of Toronto, on 2,500 acres of interspersed land nestled in “Ontario’s Lake Country”, on the eastern side of Lake Couchiching. There are about 1,300 members living off-reserve and 720 living on-reserve.

 

Responsibilities

The Communications Manager is responsible for providing an effective communications strategy for Rama First Nation. This strategy enables Chief and Council to interact with both on and off-reserve communities, reaching surrounding communities, other First Nations, governance, and various groups throughout Ontario and Canada. Strategic planning projects will be at the direction of Chief and Council with a focus on Rama First Nation, Administration, and external stakeholders. This role provides key communications leadership, with responsibilities that extend beyond a typical workday.
 

Key functions include the development of a new multi-media station, website, and social media presence; writing and oversight of materials production; media management and public relations; special event planning and management; emergency communications management; and supervision and development of staff.

 

Experience/ Education

  • College diploma and/or University degree preferred: Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Broadcast Production, Multi-Media Communications, Digital Communications, New Media Management or similar. A suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • 7-10 years progressive experience in a multi-media broadcast communications environment with responsibility for expanding digital platforms for community and public engagement and/or 5-7 years in multi-media management in a government or corporate environment.
  • Demonstrated success effectively managing changing priorities in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Development of broadcast/digital resources requires a visionary with experience in programming, funding tools, staff procurement and equipment.
  • Exposure to and understanding of federal/provincial government relations, Indigenous Services Canada, regional/national Indigenous governance organizations.

 

Skills & Abilities

  • Broad base of knowledge – political, legal, social awareness, and legal sensitivity
  • Strong leadership skills and initiative with ability to quickly understand and provide analysis on a wide range of issues
  •  Ability to build and maintain relationships and effectively deal with staff and key stakeholders in community, governance, legal, public, and media
  • Superior judgement, critical thinking and decision making with the ability to adapt, prioritize and assist in guiding processes to move forward in a deadline driven environment
  • Solutions driven and creative problem solver with the ability to work collaboratively in response to complex and sensitive situations to develop unique and impactful strategies that resonate within the community
  • Diplomacy and sensitivity required to deal with confidential information/issues
