Job Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor of Zoning the successful candidate will perform zoning analysis of architectural plans submitted with building permit, zoning certificate of occupancy, preliminary zoning review, development applications and pool permit applications to confirm compliance with all applicable zoning by-laws. The successful candidate will provide technical guidance and education to support internal/external clients/customers on zoning related issues.

The successful candidate will provide technical guidance and education to support internal/external clients/customers on zoning related issues.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review architectural plans (survey, site, grading, floor and elevation plans, etc.) and materials submitted with building permit, zoning certificate of occupancy, preliminary zoning review and pool permit applications to ensure plans comply with all applicable zoning by-law requirements.
- Prepare zoning analysis reports of building permit, zoning certificate of occupancy, preliminary zoning review and pool permit applications and indicate corrective action where required.
- Prepare zoning comments for Committee of Adjustment applications.
- Review development applications to ensure plans comply with all applicable zoning by-law requirements and identify applicable law and approvals required from other departments and/or government agencies.
- Ensure proper and consistent interpretation of the City of Mississauga Zoning By-Law.
- Respond to various zoning inquiries and provide verbal and/or written information, guidance and advice to general public, internal staff, external agencies and members of Council.
- Provide technical support to permit administration staff and provide information, education, guidance and advice to clients/customers.
- Represent the section at various committees and meetings
- Provide ad hoc assistance on projects/initiatives within the unit/team.
Skills and Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a discipline such as urban planning, architectural technology, science of building design, civil engineering technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience directly related to development approvals in a municipal environment.
- Experience reading and interpreting surveys and architectural drawings for compliance with zoning by-laws.
- Experience reading and interpreting by-laws, applicable legislation, agreements, regulations and other documentation.
- Working knowledge of e-plans or other computer assisted drafting (CAD) software.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and manage high volume workload to complete assigned duties accurately and within timelines.
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deal effectively with the public.
- Excellent interpersonal, problem solving and conflict management skills.
- Ability to work autonomously or within a group or team environment.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
