Job Summary
The Job Evaluation & Compensation Consultant will be responsible for providing senior level subject matter expertise and accountability in the Job Evaluation process to consistently, accurately and timely evaluate jobs based on identified priorities. This position will champion on-going job evaluation and application of City’s job evaluation principles and methodology across all roles. The role will also be responsible to provide compensation subject matter expertise and guidance to internal clients, and developing recommendations and implementing solutions in the area of Compensation.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager, Compensation and Job Evaluation, the successful candidate will:
• Partner with operational clients and your HR Colleagues to oversee the job evaluation program at the City for both non-union and union roles ensuring that roles are consistently and efficiently evaluated with the job evaluation tool and questionnaire.
• Be accountable to meet the established Service Level Agreements and act in a quick an efficient manner with full ownership as the job evaluator for all positions City-wide, meeting all goals and timelines.
• Be an expert in understanding JE and Pay Equity principles & concepts and share the knowledge and expertise with colleagues and clients.
• Partner with leaders on the org structure design by making recommendations that include the appropriate layers, spans of control and reporting relationships as it relates to internal equity and external best practice
• Demonstrate stellar communication skills pertaining to Job Evaluation results and principles to the HR team and business leaders to ensure alignment and transparency.
• Provide senior level expertise and leadership to the development and maintenance of job evaluation governance, framework, processes, principles and practices.
• Be responsible to manage all data (in house and using 3rd party software) related to Job Evaluation and develop tools for reporting and analysis for our clients.
• Lead, and participate in the development, research, analysis, costing, implementation of compensation programs, policies, pay equity plans, etc.
• Provide senior-level compensation expertise, consultation and interpretation to a team of human resources professionals, management and other client groups including interpretation, guidance and coaching for all aspects of compensation including policies and collective agreements.
• Ability to Identify continuous improvement opportunities, to improve process in Total Rewards and Compensation.
• Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
• 5+ years of relevant experience in Compensation or job evaluation
• Practical knowledge and application of Pay Equity principles and legislation.
• Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline (Human Resources, Business, etc.) and/or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Compensation Certified professional (CCP) considered an asset
• Strong project management skills with the ability to initiate, co-ordinate and oversee the implementation of solutions while working collaboratively with other team members.
• Advanced analytical, research, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills with the ability to identify needs, options, opportunities for change/improvement and solutions.
• Extensive experience establishing partnerships and providing and enhancing customer service, including understanding and experience with Compensation and trends in Total Rewards.
• Knowledge of employment and related legislation such as the Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, Pay Equity Act, Collective Agreements and human resource policies and practices.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in using a variety of software packages, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SuccessFactors and SAP.
