THE ROLE

Ready to jumpstart your career in Human Resources? UPP’s talented People team is on the lookout for an enthusiastic Intern, People to join us from January 2025 to April 2025! As a key player in our fast-paced Talent Acquisition team, you'll report to the Manager, Talent Acquisition, with the possibility to gain exposure across all People team functions—including People Experience and Total Rewards.

This 4-month paid internship offers full-time hours (37.5 hours/week) and hands-on experience in a supportive, dynamic environment. Target start date is January 6, 2025. This opportunity will be posted for a minimum of two weeks, or until finalist candidates are identified. It is encouraged to apply at your earliest convenience. 

 

This role is based in downtown Toronto under a hybrid work policy, allowing employees the flexibility to work remotely and in-office (minimum of two days per week in-office).

 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Talent Acquisition:

  • Assist with job postings on career portals, school career sites, diversity organizations and social media platforms
  • Organize and attend recruitment events on and off-site
  • Assist with diversity recruitment outreach and sourcing candidates from equity seeking groups
  • Maintain recruitment event calendar and referral tracker
  • Assist with Early Talent recruitment and Early Talent cohort experience
  • Schedule interviews, coordinating the availability of multiple interviewers and candidates.
  • Complete new hire background checks and reference checks.
  • Onboard new employees and coordinate transitions of internal hiring
  • Includes initiating IT requests, preparing new hire communications and preparing onboarding plans, and assign orientation buddies
  • Update onboarding materials
  • Send new hire survey’s and summarize data
  • Support with defining and executing the employer awards strategy which includes support with employer award nominations
  • Provide administrative support to the People team, which includes event and social planning and meeting coordination

 

People

  • Support Talent Programs with research, preparing meeting materials, maintaining project plans and organizing employee events and training
  • Support UPP Event including social events, Employee Resource Groups and EDI campaigns (e.g. National Day for Truth and Reconciliation).
  • Providing administrative support to People team
  • Supporting People team on various projects, tasks and initiatives, as assigned

 

Total Rewards:

  • Administrative Support: Provide benefits, compensation, and other total rewards administrative support
  • Program Documentation: Assist in drafting or updating documentation related to Total Rewards programs (compensation, benefits, recognition) that is non-sensitive, such as general program guides, FAQs, or communications materials. This could also entail, keeping our intranet content up-to-date and links all active and leading to the right location!

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Pursuing or recently completed an undergraduate degree, post graduate certificate or master’s degree in human resources management or studied several human resources courses as part of their education
  • Knowledge or keen interest in HR practices such as talent acquisition, total rewards, organizational development, and equity, diversity, inclusivity and reconciliation initiatives
  • Experience coordinating celebrations or events
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
