Building Operations Assistant
Performs general maintenance and repairs of the facility to support a safe, presentable, and healthy work environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Performs general maintenance of the facilities by conducting routine inspections for deficiencies and safety hazards; documenting inspections and prioritizing repairs; responding to maintenance requests; and performing minor repairs and grounds maintenance.
• Under the direction of the Team Lead, Building Operations, assists with HVAC and mechanical equipment repairs such as performing routine inspections and troubleshooting equipment failures; performs day-to-day minor repairs and preventative maintenance.
• Supports facility cleaning by providing assistance and training to building attendants on specialized cleaning procedures and equipment; maintains the Cleaning Standards manual.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
• Two to three years practical experience in general building maintenance and repair in a professional service-oriented environment

• Attention to Detail – requires focused attention when conducting routine inspections of the facility, performing minor repairs and preventative maintenance and checks own work and work of others for quality and accuracy; maintains cleaning standards manual ensuring currency and completeness to accurately reflect cleaning process and use of equipment.
• Commitment to Safety – applies sound knowledge of WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System), OHSA (Occupational Health and Safety Act), OBC (Ontario Building Code), CSA (Canadian Standard Act), ASHRAE (American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering, and IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) to perform routine facility inspections and check for any deficiencies and potential safety hazards; monitors use of tools and equipment on Revised: February 1, 2024 | 2 an ongoing basis to ensure their continued safe use; identifies risks, hazards, and their impact when performing general and building maintenance tasks to ensure a safe work environment. • Problem Solving – demonstrates a high mechanical aptitude and awareness of general building maintenance and operations process to perform semi-skilled work such as troubleshooting equipment failures or performing minor repairs; analyzes and identifies required repairs throughout the facility by identifying options including pros and cons, recommends best approach to address the problem.
• Facilities Maintenance – Uses basic knowledge of general building maintenance and operations, HVAC components and system operations when assisting with maintenance and repairs; conducts routine inspections and maintains facilities based on health and safety standards and identifies alternative solutions for addressing basic maintenance issues.
• Working knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
Special Conditions:
• Must be available to respond to after-hours emergency calls, on a rotating basis, to be “on call” 24 hours per day / 7 days per week to respond to emergencies. • Must be able to work in confined spaces, on occasion, to inspect mechanical equipment.
Hiring Range: $68,059 - $72,985
Full Salary Range: $68,059 - $78,268
