Job Summary

Under the direction of the Manager, Stormwater Projects & Approvals, the position will review and provide comments on development applications and stormwater charge reduction applications, including: engineering plans and reports related to storm drainage, erosion and sedimentation control, hydrologic and hydraulic computations and modeling, and stormwater asset design.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and comment on development applications, stormwater charge technical exemption applications and stormwater charge credit applications and renewals, including engineering plans and reports related to storm drainage, erosion and sedimentation control permit, hydrologic and hydraulic computations and modeling, and the design of stormwater assets
  • Provide the necessary expertise in the preparation and review of reports and analysis of data related to storm drainage to ensure adherence to design standards and policies
  • Review and issue relevant environmental permits and approvals required for development applications
  • Conduct site visits as required to support the review of applications and to conduct audits related to stormwater charge credits
  • Provide technical support to the Stormwater Charge Program Coordinator to assist with service requests and inquiries regarding the Stormwater Charge and its supporting programs
  • Provide specialized engineering input as required to other sections on matters related to storm drainage including applications for land and easement acquisitions
  • Investigate, assess and prepare solutions to complaints related to storm drainage concerns
  • Liaise with other City staff, consultants and public in response to inquiries pertaining to the City’s drainage standards and requirements
  • Represent the City at meetings with external agencies, public meetings and discussion groups as required or directed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary graduation from a civil engineering technology, environmental science or other related engineering or applied science program
  • C.E.T. designation, or is eligible for designation
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the municipal engineering field with experience in the planning, design and management of stormwater assets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills
  • Experience with hydraulic and hydrologic computer modeling
  • Valid Class “G” License
  • Must have the ability to travel between various sites and facilities located across the City of Mississauga as required
