This role may include fortnight which allows employees to work 7-3/4 hours each regularly scheduled workday allowing for an additional day off every 2-week period.
After successfully completing the probationary period, this role may be subject to a hybrid work arrangement based on Department needs.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides academic, financial and cultural support services to Indigenous students that include pre-admission/admission planning and support, education and career planning and transition assistance.
- Advises, supports and informs Indigenous students on a wide range of courses, programs, admission information and appropriate support services. Assists in the development of realistic, complete and appropriate educational plans that meet the students’ educational and career goals.
- Represents and promotes the College through liaisons with First Nation’s communities and organizations and participation in community events.
- Supports proactive planning and development of students for retention/completion.
- Maintains good communications and effective working relationships with all stakeholders and acts as a liaison between students and band/tribal/community agencies, College programs and other services.
- Supervises and trains staff. Plans, schedules, allocates and prioritizes workload to meet operating requirements and monitors and evaluates performance ensuring requirements are met.
- Assists students who have learning challenges by coordinating appropriate support.
- Organizes and participates in community-based marketing on behalf of the College. Provides informational workshops on skills training specific to Indigenous learner needs.
- Maintains records of duties and activities for learners and provides regular reports with the goal of continuous improvement of student-centered services.
- Organizes cultural workshops with the College and Consortium Elders.
- Plans, develops and implements Community needs-based programs.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Experience and understanding of Indigenous culture, issues, social structure and knowledge of local Indigenous communities.
- Bachelor’s degree, and over 3 years’ related experience working collaboratively with a variety of Indigenous and non-Indigenous groups and organizations or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.
Skills and Abilities
- Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty and other key stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively in a politically sensitive environment and to handle potentially delicate situations with tact and diplomacy.
- In-depth understanding of Indigenous culture, issues and social structure and knowledge of local Indigenous organizations.
- Knowledge of College’s educational offerings, admissions criteria, sponsorship and other forms of assistance available to Indigenous students.
- Knowledge of and the ability to practice a learner/community/service centered approach.
- Ability to supervise, train and motivate staff effectively and to promote a positive and respectful work environment.
- Strong conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation skills.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Word and Excel.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of interviewing techniques and procedures.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must be willing to work at both the Downtown and Broadway campuses or off campus to attend events.
