The Manitoba Inuit Association (MIA) offers dynamic, Inuit-specific programs and services that embody Inuit principles and values, facilitating opportunities to strengthen connections to Inuit culture, language, and community for those living in both urban and rural areas of the province. MIA, under the guidance of an Inuit Board of Directors, provides services tailored to Inuit needs, including training, employment, education, health and wellbeing, and cultural and community connections.

MIA's mission is to enhance the lives of Inuit in Manitoba by promoting Inuit values, community, and culture, while connecting individuals to services that meet their evolving needs. The organization's goals include building a vibrant Inuit community through activities that sustain and develop Inuit culture, values, and language; improving education, employment, and training outcomes; developing research partnerships to enhance health status; and fostering organizational capacity and innovation.

About the Role

The Director of Programs & Services plays a vital role in supporting and advancing the Manitoba Inuit Association's mission by overseeing all functional areas of its programs and services. Reporting to the CEO, this role focuses on delivering culturally appropriate and community-responsive programs, building strategic relationships, and fostering organizational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, culturally appropriate programs and services for the Inuit community.
  • Collaborate with the finance department to manage financial claims in line with organizational policies.
  • Lead quality assurance and improvement initiatives to foster a learning environment.
  • Ensure compliance with MIA policies, federal/provincial legislation, and standards.
  • Supervise and mentor team members in Winnipeg and remote locations, conducting regular meetings and performance reviews.
  • Represent MIA at community events and engage in public speaking with key stakeholders.
  • Act as the primary lead for proposals, grants, and funding related to the Inuit Child First Initiative Program.
  • Build and nurture relationships with community-based programs, service providers, and stakeholders.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, self-directed professional with extensive experience in community engagement and program management. They possess a profound understanding of Inuit culture, lived experience, and the challenges faced by Inuit families and communities. With exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, they demonstrate a collaborative leadership style that prioritizes team growth and development, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Social Services, Indigenous Studies, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience coordinating or managing social programs and services.
  • Direct service experience with children and families (3–5 years preferred).
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Inuktitut is an asset.
